I purchased the Regular Edition on DVD, I purchased the Extended Edition on DVD, there's NO WAY I can purchase a High-definition version (AFAIK), so I figure this is fair game.

when was the hd broadcast?
I have no idea what the source was.
What resolution and what size were the files?
720p, Dolby Digital 5.1, about 15 gigs total.
I wonder if it's a true 720p and not upconverted from the DVD. It may have been leaked from some theatre with a digital projector.

I would put my money on upconverted from DVD, anything that was projected in a digital theater would be MUCH higher resolution, & the odds of anyone getting ahold of that would be virtually nil.

I watched it in HD on Directv a few months ago. Don't remeber if it 720p or 1080i, but my DTC100 and TV only output 1080 anyway. Perhaps someone recorded it with D-VHS from Directv? or possibly a HD TV Tuner Card?

720p isn't a whole lot better than a regular DVD is it???

Just 50% more lines of resolution....depends on what you think is "a whole lot better"

HD is far superior to DVD

Oh... I just looked it up... I thought 720 was the horizontal... so it's actually 1280x720... that makes sense then... I was going to say, what's the big deal if 720p is like 720x480 or somethin when my DVD Rips are 640x340, lol.

What makes you think a digital projection would be that much higher resolution? I've always had the understanding that DLP has been dominating digital projectors for cinemas and at most they support 1280x1024. I don't think showings at digital theaters are really much high resolution than HDTV. I think the main difference is the movie isn't compressed to hell and back to fit on a multiple DVDs or harddrives.
