I just washed my car with beer

I got to thinking about the Honda commercial where the guy washes his car with bottled water and thought that the car must be a woos. A REAL car would want to be washed in something appropriate, like beer (unless it was a Miata, of course). As I had recently made a passable beer, one that I didn't care for too much, but was drinkable, I thought that after a hot day in the sun, the car would like some.

So I washed it in beer.

Its sparking and happy now (red Saab 93 SE), but was there anything ethically wrong with what I did?

(Oh yeah, I gave it a normal water rinse.)

well if it smells like beer and you get pulled over by the cops, you might have a problem explaining where the smell is coming from.

Er, I'm no expert, but depending on the beer I suspect you could have done some damage to your paint. Most car soap is very mild, beer is very not. Just throwing that out there...

pH of beer is in the normal physiological range, pH=~4, else how could you drink it?

Coke, by virtue of its phosphoric acid content is more acidic at pH=2.8.

pH of soap is somewhewre around 9 -10, about as alkaline as the beer is acidic (equidistant from 7). So fear not, the clearcoat is as fine as your doudanum (sp?) and probably more durable coinsidering what it has to put up with from birds.

The car looks quite refreshed too...

Cheers

By the way, no one addressed the original question of ethics...

Depends on the soap. Dawn dishwashing soap is used to remove wax and silicon from paint. Bird crap will eat away clear coat if left too long on a car...

Uh, sugar?
Beer is full of carbohydrates, too. :p

It seems counterproductive to "wash" your car with anything that would leave a residue behind.

I suppose he mixed the beer with soap... so maybe it wasn't so bad.. lol

Agreed on Miata vs. Saab, but I like the 4000+ pounds

Dawn is not a soap, but a detergent. Big difference chemically and you're right, probably Ph closer to 7, but a dandy surfactant.

Top coat is polymerized solid, unlike silicone oil. I believe silicone oil might be long-chained though.

Car seems to have a headache...don't know where to put the ibuprofen...

Got a pix ready (with my pretty face obsured)...how the hell do you post a picture?

Guaranteed no shens...
