To all you wonderful people who have helped me learn about computers. I went to a local computer shop, as I am looking around for a new computer. Well, the salesman (all I could think was Slick Willy) came up to me, and started telling me about this great computer I could get for only $1400.00. It was a Pentium 133 Mhz with 64 mgs of ram, and a 10 gig hard drive, with a 2 yr limited warranty. I laughed right at him, and told him there was no way I would pay that much for a computer like that. I know I post a lot of silly things but see, I do listen to what you guys are talking about. I have learned more in the last 6 months here, than I have in the 5 yrs I have been online.

Just tell him to give you the computer, its worth nothing. Though a 10gb disk is allways nice.

You must be joking with that 133 story.

I was going to post this story, but you have inspired me to. :)

I went to a computer store that is advertising an Aopen 1GHZ AMD with 40 gig and 19" monitor for 849. (And a $150 coupon supposedly.)

The computer is what they say, but the monitor was a CTX max 800x600 and the dot pitch had to be something like .89

He was pushing me to spend 200 more in seconds for a better monitor, 149 for a speedier CDRW. (The one in the computer was 1X1X8) WTF did they find that drive?

I asked him if the parts are proprietary. He said in some they are, some aren't. Ummm. Duh.

He was also telling me the computer had 72 pin simms. I fixed him pretty quick on that with a slight grumbling argument. After making him struggle a while, I just left.

Buy online.

I don't think you can even get a P133 anymore, you sure he wasn't talking about the bus speed?

Ok, I just got the flyer, and it says on it that it is a PC-133 mhz SDRAM. Is that not the same as Mhz? I know that sometimes uppercase and lower case letters can mean different things, maybe I misunderstood... :)

Yep, that's referring to the 133mhz bus speed. It's actually desirable to run it at that speed:) That salesman might have thought you were crazy for laughing at him;) But $1400 sounds a little steep for any system these days.

Well, I found a computer from one of the people here, that I am going to go for, and it is alot better and faster than what he was selling. I just cannot wait until I can afford it.... :D

And I am sure he's not the first one to think I am crazy.... ;) Thanks Sacotool, now I know something else for future reference.

Do you happen to know what speed the pentium chip is at?
anything with a number like 733Mhz or high?

GF, you laughed at the guy for the wrong reason. The PC 133 SDRAM is good, but for $1400, you should get more than 64 MBs of PC133 and a bigger hard drive than 10 GB.

I was laughing at the whole thing actually AMD. I have been looking around alot, and I knew that was too expensive. :)

Cosmic Horror: Yes I found it, it is a 500 Mhz chip. I am looking at the paper he gave me, and it is alot different than what he was saying, but still not a good price. I wonder if the poor guy was new....

Croton: Haha, very funny... :D

I was thinking the same thing Pretender, I only know of the PIII 533mhz that runs at 133mhz bus, nothing lower than that. Anyway, something is fishy about that computer ad you're looking at GF............

GF -- LMFAO!!! :D

I love it when gal takes down a salesman who thinks he can blow something by her. And you're right. A lot of folks, here, can help you put together a better machine than anything you can buy pre-assembled from a department store.

Watch out. You may be already be a geek. ;)

But a cute redhead geek. That ought to count for something. Maybe chipvegetate can expand on that. ;)
