I like the Taste of Chicago because you buy food tickets that cannot be redeemed for cash value. I gave out like 15 free tickets yesterday to random homeless people on the streets of Chicago yesterday because I know they're hungry and they can get some great food with those tickets.

I usually don't give them anything but food, my leftovers from a restaurant, or I've gone into Mcdonalds and gone crazy on the dollar menu and just handed out whatever I got to them. I don't really have a stance on what should be done with them as they're human beings and not to be legislated away with programs. I give them food instead of money because I'd rather they not just purchase alcohol with it.

I work in downtown Oakland, CA, so there are a lot of beggars there. One day some old beggar asked me for money, I said no, and he yelled at me "Dirty rat snake!!!" I couldn't help but laugh.

"We?re in one of the richest countries in the world,
but the minimum wage is lower now than it was thirty five years ago.
There are homeless people everywhere.
This homeless guy asked me for money the other day.
I was about to give it to him and then
I thought he was going to use it on drugs or alcohol.
And then I thought, that?s what I?m going to use it on.
Why am I judging this poor bastard.
People love to judge homeless guys.
Like if you give them money they?re just going to waste it.
He's gonna waste the money.
Well, he lives in a box, what do you want him to do?
Save it up and buy a wall unit.
Take a little run to the store for a throw-rug and a cd rack.
He?s homeless.
I walked behind this guy the other day.
A homeless guy asked him for money.
He looks right at the homeless guy and says,
"Why don?t you go get a job you bum?"
People always say that to homeless guys "get a job" like it's always that easy.
This homeless guy was wearing his underwear outside his pants.
Outside his pants.
I?m guessing his resume isn?t all up to date.
I?m predicting some problems during the interview process.
I?m pretty sure even McDonalds has an
?underwear goes inside the pants? policy.
Not that they enforce it very strictly,
but technically I?m sure it is in the books."

On a side note, I live in a country where there are also lots of beggars. I never give them money but don't tell to get a job either since there are too few jobs available! And almost noone hires people past 40. Yep, we don't have any welfare system, pretty much nothing. If you lose a job and got no other means to survive, you're screwed - nobody will give you a single dollar. All that will be left to you is to die in dirty streets from hunger and cold. No wonder I never really liked it here.

where do you live?

NEVER give panhandlers money.

Donate generously to shelters and outreaches that give ORGANIZED and SUPERVISED assistance to people, but NEVER give money directly to panhandlers.

At best, you're prolonging their poverty and encouraging the harassment of others. At worst, you're supporting an addiction.

That's like an invitation for a dirty needle stabbing.

When was the last time you heard of that happening?

Be a man. Don't live in fear and allow yourself to be virtually robbed by panhandlers.

IT seems that none of you realize that a majorty, probably over 60%, of homeless are schizophrenic or suffer from other mental illnesses. On top of that, obviously most have drug or alcohol addictions.

Hey, did you know 93.6% of the homeless are lazy?

and 99% of them would rather have cash then food, because you can't put food into a needle and get high, nor can you get drunk off a a burger.

Sorry, but anyone that gives panhandlers a dime is contributing to their delinquency and keeping them down. If you want to help them out contribute to job training programs.
