I just order a XFX geforce 6800gt that i am waiting to receive( will probably in next week).I decide to take a nvidia product, not because the 6800gt is higher than x800pro, but because i am extremely sick of ati AND I HOPE i wont get the same issues with NVIDIA.Let me explain.

Its simple to play all the games i want, i have 3 different driver set.I got some drivers for Everquest.I have to change drivers when i wanna play Star Wars Kotor, or else i get crashes every 20 minutes like.I have to change driver, again, to play DOOM3 or else i get crashe very 10 minutes.I am sick, tired,of changing those driver everytime i wanna play another game. For unknowed reason, even if their driver gots up in numbers, they seem to dont keep their current"settings" for old game. Its 4.9 for doom,3.9 for everquest,4.2 for star wars etc etc.

Please god, tell me i will not have these kind of issues with NVIDIA.The thing i hate the most in a game is a game that crash after 20 minutes or so.I dont care about a driver having 5 % mroe performance in xxx game etc,i just want a videocard, with drivers that wil be s.t.a.b.l.e!!!!I just spend $700 canadiens( yaa yaa Can price + taxes + shipping= OUCH! )on a card and i just hope i will, at least, have LESS issues with NVIDIA.

Hoping i took the right decision

gt is a dynamite card! your issues may have nothing to do with ATI though. sounds like you have some driver/hardware incompatiblities. for example, with old lingering video drivers, IRQ issues, etc.

KOTOR has had a problem with the catalyst drivers for a while now. You have to copy some of the dlls from the cat4.2 to replace some newer files. There are instructions in the Bioware tech support forum.

Y i know the little trick about KOTOR, but anyway i have to do it everytime i switch game.

Ohhh well hehe tks 🙂 Ya i think ill love this GT card.It better nto break into ma face, anyway,im not a OC fanatic so i wont OC it hehe

BTW i think its not an issue of stability of my system.Just a few games that does that, but when it do that, i have to switch driver every time.If i install XXX driver for xxx game, then it will be fine no problem.

Anyway, later this year i will get AMD64 3200 OR 3400 maybe to maximize my gaming experience

Hahah oh well,

this time around nVidia 6800 kills x800 ati cards. I say screw my x800pro that i recently got 4 days ago. I am returning because of its horrible performance; i get better fps with my 9800pro. I ordered a bfg 6800gt oc from outpost.com. It was only 350 cheapest i have ever seen it.

nVidia > Ati, this time around, just this generation of cards 6800 series kills all cards out there. Plus getting a hold of a ati x800xtpe will cost you a forturne and perforamnce is equivalent to 6800gt and its cheaper, so its your choice

Any one looking for a great card under 180, 9800 pro no doubt

PEBKAC.
Problem exists between user and keyboard.
No one else I don't think has found a 9800Pro to outperform an X800Pro.

my only comment is... your nickname fits....

No kidding your system sounds unstable.

I have the same problem with mine in KoTOR(although haven't had issues with D3)- also have problems with Morrowind and RoN(CTD). If I revert back to the 3.10s Morrowind and RoN clear up- but KoTOR gets a lot worse or I can move to the 4.2s and KoTOR gets better, but Morrowind and RoN are screwed up not to mention performance in D3 tanks(versus the latest drivers).

Seriously. I would say that Nvidia might be a LITTLE bit better this round... but killing, nah ATI is extremely close/on par.

I agree there is a problem with you if you think a 9800Pro outperforms the X800Pro.... wait let me guess it was a Jetway 😀 .... that fixes everythign doesn't it.

Hmmm.
ATI is reputed to have more driver issues than nVidia, but I never had any with my 9800Pro. You may have other issues?

oh oh then there must be something wrong wiht my current x800pro, because its performing the same or worse in games. Of course the x800 outpeforms in benchmarks, but benchmarks dont mean anything. We all want to know the performance in a game. For some reason my 9800pro does alot better in playing the sims 2 and cs:s along with ut2004. I must have a bad x800pro.

I said that nvidia killed ati was because when you compare price to performance, there are alot of tests online where an 6800 utra and sometimes a 6800 gt outperforms a x800xtpe. Esp when those cards are like 100 to 200 less than the x800xtpe. Thats why i said kill, becuase i guess since i am not load with a lot of cash i cant be throwing around money to get a x800 and 6800.

I doubt it. If it were bad then you would most defenatly have more troubles than just low framerate, you probably have something in your system missconfigured.

I had a 9800 AIW and made the switch to a Gainward 6800 GT Golden Sample. My decision to go with the Gainward 6800 GT was based on frustration with crashes in KOTOR (although ATI has just released a hot fix for this...), the great performance of the 6800 GT and the availability of the Gainward card.

The 6800 GT is fantastic but loud. I modded the card and installed an NV Silencer which has made a world of difference.

I personally don't have anything against ATI, but at the present time nVIDIA just had a better product to fit my needs.

i have a bfg 6800gt in my amd 64 box and i love it. good card.
i have an ati x800pro in my intel box. love it equally good card.

Hope you do better with the 6800gt but it sounds like you had other problems that may come over.

Um, it's not ATI. Something is wrong with your system if you're getting crashes like that. I ran an ATI 9800Pro for over a year without any issues. I'm guessing if you put that card in without a reload you're going to have problems with Nvidia as well.

Oh, and going from ATI to Nvidia made it no longer possible to host "Soldiers: Heroes of WW2" behind my firewall. Don't ask me why or what changed but with my 9800Pro I could - with the 6800GT I can't. 😕 Should I bash Nvidia now? 😉

Yea, I agree, you may have spoke too soon. You may have the same problems. Go troll somewhere else.

This issue you are having with the drivers is messed up, but if you ever have to do this in the future, try using
hardware profiles with different drivers. It will make your life easier.

Damn beat me to it.

I just took a nap because I was tired, myself....

No i dont think its a conflict issue because its written on Bioware board on how to fix the problem( damn they are aware of it and waiting for over 1 year for a fix lol).So only way to buypass the problem is to install the 4.2 Direct 3D driver.

For doom 3 well we all know you need latest ATI driver to run it perfectly.Pre 4.6 i think have problem running doom 3.So 4.8 or 4.9 are require

For everquest 1 they "recommand" xxx driver, which mean there is some kind of "problems" with some drivers.3.9 work the best for me.

ALL my other games are ok.UT 2004,Sims 2,etc work perfectly. But its having to switch between xxx drivers to play xxx games because of certain problem that pisses me off.Nvidia was knowed having these kind of issue9 what a buddy said to me) and he switch to ATi.So atm, im flipping a coin and hoping i wont get as much problem with a NVIDIA card.
