I just setup ASUS Premium mobo....

I know! I "fixed" my old computer by building this beast, even though there was nothing wrong a good reformat would not fix! Still, had to be first on the block with a dual chip, and wanted to shake up all my "Intel" friends

Well, I have a sorta similar system to you (cpu/mobo), and I upgraded all my drivers.

I am running the bios Beta 1007-002, and installed the latest nvidia chipset drivers. My comp runs beautifully and has never crashed.

If you decide to flash the bios, do the chipset drivers first, as instructed to on the asus website. In fact, I DIDN'T do this- I flashed the bios first a week or two ago, then finally downloaded the chipset drivers a few nights ago - it never crashed though.

Also, the best way to flash the bios in this mobo is to simply hit alt-f2 (or is it cntrl-f2 ) during bootup, and it'll automatically search the floppy for the bios file and install it no problem. It is super easy- didn't know until recently that I could do this.

I think it would be close enough - in fact it would seem like mine would be more susceptible to unstable drivers with my raid and 2 additional drives.

To answer your question I don't know how much I spent- it was a lot though. I decided when I upgraded this time that I was just gonna get whatever I felt like at the time and not worry about cost.

I had read people saying that RAID doesn't help much for gaming, but I beg to differ . It's all about how much money you are willing to spend on equipment. My comp is so ridiculously fast loading up levels in BF2, that I am always in game for about 30seconds or so all by myself, before the other 63 people start filtering in - it's funny sometimes.

Thanks, I may just give those drivers a change, right after I make a fresh image or 2 with Acronis I am using no raid or overclocking at all, so you would be more prone to instability, one would think. No games, although I will probably demo Doom 3, now that my computer can play it. Dave

Yes you are missing something, I'm the only one that has one......... It's my own custom design, I just decided to give Asus credit for it........ (Sig)

OK OK, it is a A8N-SLI Premium Will put that in sig. I went ahead and uninstalled ALL Nvidia drivers. Tense moment there till XP sorted it out. Then put back in ALL latest drivers INCLUDING IDE drivers. they enabled NCQ in my drive and I believe are much snappier. System back to normal status and cranking pretty good. Dave

Thanks cape.... I'm now much better informed... but can't help you much with a A8N-SLI Prem. I'm still using the older breeds.
