People can drive whatever they want. Just because somebody drives that ugly soybean doesn't mean that he's necessarily a liberal democrat or a member of greenpeace or something like that, even if the majority of the drivers of those vehicles are.

I know of some liberal democrats who drive pickup trucks and SUVs.

lol, that's actually the first thing I thought of. It took me a bit to figure out what he was trying to say.

In any case, driving a Prius in California isn't a status symbol anymore as the cost of the Pruis is quite competitve now. Heck, my dad bought a Nissian Leaf for basically $26k (after $12.5 in cash rebates) plus a free home 220 volt charger. His commute is only 25 miles so it's perfect for him and he's got his 10 year old G35 as a backup.

It makes sense for many people financially to get a hybrid or even a Nissian Leaf so people paying extra to try to be green is no longer a requirement for driving a Prius. The guy is really just showing his insecurity towards agreeing with anything a liberal could like.
