So obviously Americans preferred the HAPPY Hollywood ending. And the Brits preferred the STIFF UPPER LIP grind it out ending. 🙂

There was no happy ending in the American version. Juno appears in the car with her dead and bloody, credits roll. That is not a happy ending.

^^ exactly the version I saw... looked like Juno's ghost.

WTF version is this ? And BTW, that just made no sense - more like they threw that in at the end to give us one final scare... doesn't fit into other hallucinations, etc. I mean if Juno survived the 50 monsters, there's no way she made it back to the truck quicker.

I did like the movie for what it was though... hard to make a non-cheesy horror-flick and this delivered well.

UK version ending (last 10 minutes)

I really do hate how the US version just leaves you wondering WTF will happen (will there be a sequel)... way too many like that and it makes it feel cheap. Whereas the UK version... you know she's done-for which completes the feeling of despair they were going for.

Ok, saw it today and thought it was horrible. So, I dunno, lame. I don't see how sh!t like this scares people. The last movie I remember being scared at was Signs.

The movie lost it's appeal to me after the husband took a couple of poles to the head. That was the coolest part of the movie. Well. That and the part where Juno does a stand yoga leg split.

In the UK version, falls down that hole, wakes up and escapes. Goes to the car and drives off. Then she wakes up, realizes her escape was a dream and sees she is still in the cave. You don't know what happens but you assume she dies.

One explanation for the UK version I have heard is that the ending proves that there were not any monsters. It shows her all alone and bloody. She was the one that killed everyone.

That is definately possible.

I don't think that is what happened. That would not explain how everyone else saw a bunch of them. What about the asian girl at the end when she saw like 50 of them?

It just doesnt make sense how everyone saw these things, and even 2 peole were getting attacked and killed at the same time by 2 different creatures. So I don't think that's what happened. She was all bloody because she fell into the pool of blood.

Keep in mind that that WHOLE movie could have been presented from her delusional state. The main character was the first to "see" the monsters. She left her medication at the cabin, she was mentally unstable.

They set the groundwork for you view what happened in multiple ways.

I personally like that there were actually monsters but to each their own.

Saw the UK version a month ago. I believe there was actually monsters and she just went insane at the last minute. Its too many deaths that cannot be explained if she was the killer even if it was from her point of view. Superb movie though.

I can't really think of a movie I have seen that has had me more terified than this. I read a quote before the movie saying, "The Descent pulls you down into a nightmare that doesn't let you come back up for air until the credits roll." This sums it up perfectly.
All I can say is, I am very glad I saw this during the mid-day!

i'm watching it now... holy crap.. 1st movie in YEARS that has me SCARED. and it's only the 1st 30 min so dar.

I just watched the movie today, and just now watched the UK ending. Truth be told I don't find either ending entirely satisfying (though the VERY end of the US version, where Juno appears in the car, makes no sense as anything but a hallucination).

It strikes me as curious that Sarah essentially murders Juno at the end. Although Juno killed that other girl (Beth?), she clearly didn't do it on purpose. It seems as though Juno might have had an affair with Sarah's husband, and maybe that's why she killed her, but I dunno.

Yeah, but Sarah didn't know that Juno didn't kill the other girl on purpose..and the fact that she had an affair with her husband didn't help.

I agree though..I don't think I would find either ending that satisfying. I have only seen the UK version though.

I saw this movie last weekend. It was a first time that I couldn't breath by watching a movie. When Sarah got stuck in the cave and couldn't breath, I was out of breath/hear beat fast and I almost had to step out of the theater if the scence would last another 10 seconds or so.

Overall, it was decent but I hate the ending. Just typical horror ending. Also, I didn't like the reasons why the girls were so weak/scared yet some of them became so brave later. Why Juno, the team leader and an expert climber, made such bone head mistakes by left/forgot the tools/equipements and lead the team to a abandon/not on the map cave.

BTW, Juno is a hottie. Love the pose when she hold the hammer and began to look for Sarah.

I went in anticipating a great movie and came out terribly disappointed. With all the positive reviews I expected a lot more.

Yeah, you're right, but somehow it seems unfair to me that Juno was murdered. I guess on balance I like the UK version better, because at least it makes sense.

I thought this was a pretty good movie on the whole, but I can't help but think it's a little overrated. Still, it's a huge step up from all the crappy, Japanese-inspired PG-13 "horror movies" we've seen in recent years.

Natalie Mendoza is my new goddess. That girl was smokin' hot in this movie. 🙂

The UK ending seems to leave open the possibility that the whole thing was a hallucination and that Sarah may have just gone crazy and killed everyone. It would have been good if at the end a team of rescuers eventually go into the cave and find no mosters or bones or anything.... just the five dead girls.

I felt like I was watching The Cave all over again which was another terrible movie. I don't plan on seeing this again or recommending it to anyone.

Hey, for some reason rh71's link didn't show everything. I found a better youtube entry: Another Youtube version with full ending

I am kind of dissapointed that the US version cut this out, since the final 2 minutes CHANGES EVERYTHING! I saw this movie at the theatre yesterday and the ending bothered me from the time I left the theatre till now. However, I am dissapointed it ended like all other scary movies with the dissapointing hallucination, crazy-all-in-your-head plot twist.

Anyhow, regardless, this movie was still the scariest SOB I'be seen in years. I LOVE horror movies and not much phases me anymore. But this thing was truely horrorfying. The British know what they are doing with this movie.

Saw the UK version and wasn't impressed at all really.

I watched the Dawn of the Dead remake for like the 6th time this weekend and still enjoyed that like 100x more than "The Descent"

scary movie + hawt girls =

I guess I saw the UK ending...

Also, did sara become the new female creature? we see that she killed the only female creature in the movie and at the end, she was in the cave thinking that she is with her daughter. Maybe the cave creature need a new queen? sequel anyone? 😛
