I just saw Hostel (well, the 2nd half of it at least)

This movie is absolutely disgusting!

The director of this movie (and directors of other movies like this one) must be absolutely fscked in the head. I can't believe for a second that a normal human could not only think of ideas like these, nor can I believe that they might actually think it enjoyable to create something of this nature for other people to watch.

I'm more shocked that some people actually enjoy movies like these.

To each their own I guess.

I feel like I need to throw up...

All it takes is imagination and in the case of the movie industry, a reaction to what sells well like Saw (which is also a reaction and extension of ideas in films like Seven). If the people involved in making the film didn't put their all into it, you'd end up with a huge pile of suck. Having said that, Hostel wasn't brilliant but it wasn't terrible either.

People love to be freaked/grossed out. I went to see the Exorcist when it was re-released and everyone in the cinema was laughing or bored. The boundaries have been pushed so far, they have to go as far as Hostel to get the ZOMG reaction which is what the paying audience wants.

Hostel was a big steaming pile. If anyone watches it, just turn it off after the first 30 minutes and you'll be ok.

i think if we start to sell tickets for people to watch executions, people will buy tickets to view it.

Yeah.....prob not an original idea. There's definitely stuff like this out there in real life.

I think the psychological horror movies are far more scarier than this type. Hostel was probably catering to the teenies and such with all the sex in the beginning and then slasher crap. The storyline in this flick was pretty nonexistent. What was the first 30 minutes doing exactly... building relationships? Nah, I've seen better plot in pron.

I don't think that idea is farfetched with the popularity of sites like ogrish/liveleak etc.

I actually think it was a great movie. You really think this type of movie doesn't appeal to people? I'm probably one of those who'd buy a ticket from scalpers for an execution. There is always interest in pushing the edge, and I think this movie definitely did it. It's not meant to be scary so much as bizzare; more of a thriller than a horror film. That said, I could see this happening in real life - and I definitely think there are many more possible movies from these types of angles.

Honestly, one of the shittiest movies I've seen in years. Tarantino should be embarrassed to have his name on that one. I turned it off about 1/2-2/3 of the way through. It's the typical new Hollywood horror movie, which is to say violence and gore for the sake of violence and gore. Bad plot, no style, no redeeming qualities whatsoever. But it's got lots of blood and disturbing scenes. Man, the more I think about this movie the more I get pissed at what a typical disgusting raging piece of shit it was. I better stop :p

Edit: Oh, and one more thing. If you actually happened to enjoy this movie then you're, at bare minimum, a little fucked up in the head. I'm being completely serious here. If you're actually willing to watch a chick getting her eye burned out with a propane torch.. well, let's just say you have some serious issues that you should get looked at. Period.

ROFL, some of your reactions are too funny. I haven't seen this movie, but I've watched the first 2 Saws, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and many more Slasher movies. If you don't like this Genre of Movies, fine, but those of us who do are just as normal as you are.

Except for the like-watching-people-being-tortured part.

But you're not watching "a chick getting her eye burned out with a propane torch," you're watching an *actress* *pretending* to have her eye burned out with a propane torch.

There is a WORLD of difference between the two. If you can't recognize that difference, then perhaps you're the one with issues. Do you think the typical teenage, Friday-night movie going audience who watches these films would just as willingly engage in watching real torture on real human beings?

Bah. You watch too much sensationalist news and read too many forums populated by wanna-be thug 12-year-olds (or just youtube comments.) While my faith in humanity isn't as strong as it once was, I don't think we're totally doomed quite yet.
