I just saw Apocalypse Now Redux

It reminds me why I love watching older films. You rarely get a thought provoking movie like this anymore. The newer version did seem fairly dragged out compared to what was in the original cut, but the meaning behind it was still there.

The scene with the aerial shot of the fighting, peaking when the Vietnamese woman throws a grenade into the helicopter and you hear the pilots over the radio calmly coordinating the attack, is my favorite film scene of all time. The explosions over the jungle syncing with "The End" by the doors may be my second favorite.

Combine this with the perfection of The Godfather I & II, it is a shame we've got Jack, literally, from Coppola since.

The Redux is the only version of the movie I've seen. I watched it during a long weekend (spring break?) on campus with some college friends. We signed out a projector and set it up huge on our wall.

The jungle explosions synced with "The End" is my 1st favorite of any movie...the scene with the aerial shot you mentioned is one of my favorites as well.

I have had some free time and have been enjoying some of these classics. I have never seen any of the Godfathers or Shawshank Redemption, and I plan to see one of them tonight as well.

What I'd give to get to see the Godfathers for the first time again. . . actually it wasn't until the 2nd and 3rd viewing that I really started to appreciate it.

oh man. you are going to enjoy it.

though it took me a few viewings (and years) to enjoy the Godfathers. BUT the Shawshank Redemption is just amazing. by far my favorite movie ever.

The helicopters scene with Wagner blasting out has to be one of the greatest scenes in a movie ever. And "I love the smell of napalm in the morning" has to be one of the greatest movie lines ever.

And Shawshank Redemption was no dissapointment either. But talk about a completely different movie! I want to see The Godfather before my X-mas break is over next week, but I don't want to breeze through all these great movies so quickly either!
