I just saved over $600 by switching to Ameriprise

is there a website that ranks companies in terms of service/claims? I'd like to go with the cheapest but if they suck come claims time then it would be pointless. I've been with Geico for many many years because of their reputation.

I think USAA and Amica are generally rated best. Geico, State Farm, and AllState are all rated middle to lower tier.

Sigh* cheapest I can find is $1500 for 6 months. Being 19 and a male puts you in the shitter. I haven't even gotten so much as a scrape in all my years of driving.

I pay 1800 every six months, Im 19. Totaled two cars, rear end someone, got rear ended, and have two speeding tickets on my record. I drive a 2004 Tiburon GT.

You should be able to find much cheaper insurance. Only difference I can think of is I have extremely good credit and a college degree.

Because your college degree matters for insurance cost....

Here's something my insurance agent shared with me after I had an accident middle of last year:

Unfortunately age no longer is a factor, so turning 25 will have no bearing on the rate. The only factors now are the number of years of driving, which after 3 years everybody pays the same and driving record for tickets and accidents. The points for your accident will stay on for a three year period, starting this October. After 3 years the rates will come back down to what ever the normal rates are at the time.

What many people do not understand about the penalty for the accident is this. Most people are under the assumption that the insurance company gets the money that is being charge because of the points. That is only partially true. It is a state law that we charge the points and increase the premium. The state gets the vast majority of the penalty to put in the high risk pool they designed called the facility. This is similar to an assigned risk pool where high risk drivers are placed. Generally, the high risk drivers could not get coverage from standard companies like State Farm, so the state formed the facility as a source for high risk drivers to get insurance. Because these drivers cause more damage than the money collected in premiums, the state has to get the money from somewhere, so guess who pays. As in most cases in our society, one person is subsidizing another....

I started shopping around. Currently paying between 1350 and 1400/year with GEICO. Looks like I can drop that by $200/year by moving to 21st Century or Progressive. Might have to think about switching.

Edit: Married (insurance covers both myself and my wife), 1997 Dodge Ram 4WD (mine), 2006 Mazda6 (wife's)

I use USAA and have a 2004 Silverado 2500, 2007 Silverado 1500, 2002 Prizm, 2002 spirit trailer, 2005 Kawasaki Brute Force 650 ATV and a 2005 Arctic Cat 400... all fully covered with low deductibles ($0 comprehensive, etc.) and pay around $1600 every 6 months. I tried to shop around, but everyone is much more expensive, like 180%!!

It helps that my house insurance is with USAA too.

Are you being sarcastic? Because those are the two reasons my insurance agent told me they were still able to insure me. Education has a huge effect on ins rates.

Most of that info wont be correct in other states.

I just tried getting a quote from esurance and even if I lower the limits to the bare minimum they still couldn't beat what I'm paying right now. $800 for 6 months at 100/300.

Got an associates in general studies but still working on the bachelor's. (Got about a year to go) (but not in General Studies 😛). I have perfect credit so far but drive a 2004 Ford Expedition. I blame it on being an SUV which my brother insisted on.

Just had Geico quote me on my three cars and ended up saving $210 with better coverage and lower deductible compared to Allstate whom I've had for the past 30 years. Might be time to say bye-bye.
