I just switched to Geico.
I dont know why. Geico is not a cheapo insurance company like Mercury. For some odd reason, their rates in NJ are rediculously low. www.geico.com Try it.

Since my car is crap, I got liability insurance only. $230 for 6 months.

im from Mass where the state government forces us to have high car insurance by not allowing some insurance companies in.

Just for the record:

In Virginia I have All State: $436 for 6 months.

I'm 24 and engaged (oh, so close to those sweet, sweet discounts!)

CK

EDIT: Oh yea, and I MEANT to add that Geico would cost me roughly $650 for the same coverage on a 6 month policy.

I recently switched to GEICO too (b/c I moved to NYS and my former company does not provide coverage there). I'm paying $368 for two cars (one full coverage, the other -- liability only). It's kinda odd though that their online tool was giving me $450-$490 (for various options I tried, all along the lines of full insurance for the 1 year old car and liability only for the 6 year old) ... but the final quote came down to $368.

I did not like GEICO before ( I left them back in 1999 or something) b/c they raised my premium for no good reason, but I'd still recommend to use their online quote tool -- it's very convenient to use and friendly, does NOT ask unnecessary questions and has many options.

Why do you consider Mercury insurance "cheapo" ?? I just switched from State Farm to Mercury. I am rethinking my decision and trying to decide if it was a mistake to go with Mercury???? Anyone have good/bad experiences with them?

My father is a lawyer who defends insurance companies for a large amount of his business. After dealing with claims defense he has told me dont buy any Insurance from any company but state farm. He actually had to drop all-state as his client, because they tried to not pay on claims they should have to way to often. He didnt want to defend a company that was at fault to begin with. It was too much of an uphill battle for no reason.

Taking advice from someone who actually spends their time on the insurance company side of lawsuits, I will take his word for it. Thats why I went with State Farm. Id like to actually have and insurance company pay for my claims, and not drop me after my first accident.
