I just requested an increase on my gas card, but was denied.

Speak to a manager? Threaten to take my business elsewhere? Burn the place down? lol

I kinda need it while I wait for my first full paychecks...

I maxed out my gas card due to this. So I don't really have a choice but to use cash, but that sucks right now. I don't get my first full paycheck for another 2 weeks, and that will have to mostly be used for bills.

New jobs suck that way.

Which bank backs the card? What's your current limit? How good is your credit score? How close to your limit are you now?

Info man, INFO!

Why did they deny you? Perhaps because it appears until recently you didn't have a job and need to purchase things on credit?

BTW...get a "real" credit card.

i guess i don't understand what a gas card is and how you can max it out and how you can request for a higher limit on something you've maxed out without paying anything off...

It's a Chevron-Texaco credit card.

I maxed it out. I requested a limit increase, they denied me. Being maxed out doesn't have anything to do with being denied, although they didn't give me a reason(it will be mailed to me).

It's a credit card that is either specifically just for one brand of gas (Exxon, Mobil, Shell, etc) and/or offers specific rewards/discount. I don't understand why OP is putting 6K+ miles on his car and spending ~$700/mo in gas when he doesn't have a job.

but if you're maxed out and can't pay it off or haven't paid it off, why would anyone in their right mind give you more credit?

if multiple people can't figure out what you are trying to say, maybe the problem isn't theirs?

QFT. Being maxed out is a great reason to deny you.

Yeah, OP, you aren't answering our questions.

Have you considered applying for a new card? BP has a 10% cash back offer for 6 months right now, 5% afterwards.

If you don't have BP in your area, just try a different company. Shell, for example.

That's exactly how credit card companies make money.. :p

To Eli, follow these procedures:

1) Call CC, ask for increase.. when they give you runaround, ask for retention department
If they ask why, tell them you want to close your account and you're going to transfer the balance to another credit card.. this will get you right to retention

2) Tell them the situation, tell them you want to stay with their company but you need them to help you out. They will deal with you. They will want something in return though for good faith.. if you can make ANY sort of payment on your card.. even like 20 dollars, offer to make a payment. Retention departments at credit card companies do NOT want to lose you as a customer... especially because you are the perfect customer in their eyes. (maxed out card, asking for more credit.. they make lots more off you). They are the dumbest CC around if they deny your increase. I promise you won't have an issue.

Hell, I understood what a "gas card" was...what I DON'T understand is WHY they declined the increase...(The OP hasn't given us enough details...although he says they haven't told him...YET)

Gotta be something credit related...

Did you miss any payments on the card?

Has your credit score dropped since it was issued?

Not sure the change in jobs would be enough to deny...unless there was a long period of unemployment in between jobs, and (again) payment history suffered...

I havn't worked in almost 4 years and I keep getting credit card offers...(fcking parasites)

Is this a relatively new card? From some of your recent posts you made it sound like you had no credit cards.

A new card maxed out within its first couple billing cycles is not likely to get an increased limit.

Now if you max it out, PIF, max, PIF, etc. a few times in a billing cycle they may be more understanding.

You are probably more of a liability in their eyes than revenue generating.

The Chevron Texaco card doesn't appear to offer any cash back or anything like that (I have nothing better to do at work today)...why don't you apply for a card that will put some money back in your pocket? I put about 500 miles a week on my car for work travel and I put it all on a Chase card giving me 5% cash back tax free. Just on work expenses (food/hotel/gas) I earned enough points for a $50 credit last month alone. Won't necessarily get you though the current situation but it's probably worth looking into.

Debt to income ratio was too high. They're going to be looking at what your financial situation was 1-3 months ago, not what it's going to be in the future.
