I cannot get the movie to play.

When I look at the DVD in Windows explorer, the only file I see is "Autoplay.exe", and it takes up 168kb.

yet when I look at the properties of the disc, its taking up 7.81gb.

the movie should be there right? on other dvd's I've seen, isnt there a folder that has the video files (\video or something)?

Windows 2000 SP1
WinDVD 2000
Pioneer 104s DVD
8MB ATi Xpert@play 98 AGP

My other DVD's still play fine, yet this one refuses to play. The Disc also seems to be in perfect condition. there are 0 noticeable scratches or fingerprints.

help...

I have heard that some software players had trouble running the Matrix DVD because some of the scenes were so complex. I have also heard that some set top players have had the same problem. I experienced software player problems with this DVD. But I also have a Hollywood+ and it worked fine. In fact, the only reason I tried the software player was to see if there was a problem...there was...it skipped like hell during the infamous gun battle scene and eventually kicked back to the desktop.

I've got the same DVD player as you so I don't think that is it.

Its not just the Matrix. Its any film in that specific propriety format. The problem with DVD is that there are too many non-standard formats out there.

I had this problem with my home DVD player. There is a special feature on the DVD (I think its the "Follow the White Rabbit" feature) that some players cannot play. I have a Samsung home player that had to have a firmware upgrade just for this movie. Check for any errata for WinDVD 2000 on their website to see if there is a patch for it.

This is totally wrong. The problems are due to either:

1) Bad disk - something is physically wrong with it.
2) Bad player.

NOT the DVD.

it's quite simple, "The Matrix" is working, it's controlling your DVD, telling it not to not play it, the only way the matrix can survive is if you don't see it's defeat.

Should have taken the red pill!!!!!

No seriously:
I had the same problem with WinDVD 1.2. Try changing navigation to Directshow (or the other way around - forgot what the other one was called).

Hope this helps,

Menel.
