I have no problems with SP2. If MS hadn't released SP2, you'd all be bitching that MS needs to do something to fix the security holes in XP. No matter what MS does, they are damned if they do and damned if they don't.

Yep.
I disagree, look at all the service packs for windows NT and 2000, they've been only good to me (to my knowledge at least) and haven't been causing any problems that I know of, btw you guys wouldn't happen to know the issue with Sp4 in 2000 would you?(Some members refuse to install it) The security center is completely unnecessary as every computer illiterate person I know just clicks their way through the OS ignoring warnings like popups on a web page so there is basically no point to it at all. And it's not absolutely necessary to have an antivirus program to browse the web safely nor is the 'firewall' included with XP even useful.

What about that stupid warning that continues to popup everytime I install a new program? Thats no in the security center garbage that comes with SP2.

You have no idea what your talking about. Windows XP SP2 is very stable and works very smoothly for 99.99% of people out there.

All of those quirks that you mentioned can easily be corrected. You're just a user that hasn't taken the time to understand your OS.

XP SP2 is the best OS Microsoft has put out to date. If you don?t know how to disable the security center or other features then you probably shouldn?t be using a computer. Stick to a slide-rule or abacus.

that's just Bill & Co looking out for you! If that annoys you, Vista will KILL YOU. I absolutly HATE how intrusive it is, and how often it asks me to give premission for crap. I think SP2 induced some weird over protective Active-X security on my box. Because I set my Active-X settings to "low" in my internet options and it still won't let me view the flash in my web page without clicking on a box and "allowing" it. teh sUx0rs. I suspect Vista will be much much worse by release time. Unless MS relaxes on the security, or a h4x0r comes up with a patch that shuts it the hell up. I won't be touching it.

SP2 is useable, annoying but I learned to live with it.

Why bother, why not just use what was working before, SP1...

And like I said, everyone has yet to explain to me when I download a file off the internet, an executeable at that, I get a warning dialog saying "Do you want to run this file?"
Tells me the publisher
The Type
and where I'm running it from

It's got a stupid shield icon on the lower left hand side of the dialog box and there are two options, Run and Cancel. This damned dialog box pops up whether or not I have the security center enabled and it's driving me nuts. I also hate the new icon for wireless networking and the stupid "limited connectivity" crap. SP2 also kills tons of compatibility with older applications of mine. Thankfully though, I'm still running SP1 on my main rigs. Also hate WMP10.

windows xp pro with sp2 slipstreamed FTW.

besides, i just disable windows security center all together and disable my firewall. symantec antivirus, ad-aware, and spybot do it for me.
