I just received my HP Envy 34c VA monitor

I received my new monitor a few hours ago and have spent the last 3 hours setting it up. I am feeding it via dp at 60hz. I have to say that the colors are very vivid just as they were on my old dell 2709w and the lower dot pitch keeps the text crisp. I was having issues with seeing multiple windows on that 27" 1200p screen and this 3440x1440 was just what I needed to get my content on screen. I haven't played any games yet and will try it later on. I did watch a 1080p movie and had black bars on the sides but it wasn't overly annoying. So far I'm very pleased with my purchase. The things I like least about it are the white body color and the tilt only stand but the screen is just the right height for me so no harm done there.

Do you find the image fuzzy or have a hard time focusing on small text? I owned the S34E790C (Samsungs variant of this panel) for a time and found text and images to be somewhat out of focus at certain angles. Not sure if it was the curve in combination with the VA panel or what.

Enjoy your new panel though! As a whole, the image quality was superb.

So far the image quality has been excellent and I haven't had any problems with reading small or large text without the use of reading glasses ( I have bad eyes) unless I'm looking at an extreme left or right angle. The curve works perfectly for my needs and allows me to have 3 open windows side by side for the first time ever. I put my university course shell in the middle ands flank it with the textbook and whatever else I need to have open with it. I played battlefield 3 earlier at the native resolution and everything was very smooth with no issues.

I read your impressions post on the dell and am a big fan of their 3 year warranty, however even with the extended warranty cost added to this one it was still much cheaper. Since I only planned to run a single monitor having the speakers on the front bezel facing me was a plus. With that said if someone had run that dell on sale in the same price range I would've been inclined to get it. I was really close to getting the LG 34UC87C until I started reading about the crooked stands. Way too many people were reporting that their monitors weren't level and I just couldn't take a chance on getting one like that.

This unit actually cost less than the dell 2709w that it is replacing. Microcenter has been running their 34" curves on sale lately and seeing it at $599.99 got me to commit to it. The LG was the same price too but the stand problem along with the fact that their extended warranty comes from a 3rd party vendor with a poor reputation stopped me from going there. I've always had good service from HP with their printers so if I need service on the monitor it shouldn't be any different.

Puffnstuff if you got the HP Envy 34c VA for $599.99 say no more! You got one heck of a deal!!!!! Enjoy it.

I'm still getting used to the widescreen gaming!

The only game I've tried so far is BF3 in 3440x1440 which works well and everything is smooth just like with the old dell. Perhaps later I'll try Titanfall but for now I've been doing mostly productivity things on it. Being able to put 3 windows side by side and see them all at once is fantastic and really helps when I'm writing a paper or taking a test. With that 27" screen I was playing hide and seek with my windows and it got old quick. For months I had my laptop setup beside it so I could run things on it as a second screen. This one is large enough that I no longer need to use it to do my work.

I wish that I could've gotten this thing way before now and it is really making things a whole lot easier than before. I appreciate everyone who has posted their experiences with wide screens in the forums because I tried to read their assessments. Now last night I noticed that I do have a problem with playing back videos on Netflix and amazon prime using FF or IE 11. I have to use chrome in order to play them back at native resolution otherwise I get an error from both services. YouTube plays just fine on any of them although I end up with black bars all around.

Titanfall works pretty poorly at least on my ultrawide 1080x3 eyefinity set up. You get weird clipping at the edges of the screen and your viewport is limited to 1080p-ish width in the middle while you're in the titans. Works great when you're on foot though. Fun game, too bad not many people play it anymore.

I tried Titanfall last night at 3440x1440 and it looked really good. Being able to see more peripheral activity comes in handy and my gtx780 ti is able to keep it smooth, although I do not know what my framerates were.

I'll have to give it a shot again and see if they've fixed it for ultrawide then, I haven't played in 6 months so that could be it. 21:9 might just be better supported too though

Yesterday I messed around with several steam games that I've not touched in a very long time and they've updated them for 21:9. I played my train simulator until I started falling asleep running the thing down the El Cajon pass and seeing it in ultrawide is really nice. I was initially worried that my gtx 780 ti wouldn't be enough to keep my frame rate up but so far everything is okay. I'm using display port at 60hz and I've not run into problems yet. Running and gunning is a bit weird since there's so much screen moving about when I turn.
