I just realized the song "Homecoming" Kanye West is about Chicago.

This is surprising because of a couple of reasons:
1) This is one of my favorite songs by Kanye West
2) I consider him to be one of the greatest musicians ever. He comes a close 2nd to greatest rapper ever (Behind Jay-Z)... Meaning I should know something simple like this.

Did anyone else not realize this song was about Chicago? I guess I should have figured out by:
And if you don't know by now, I'm talking about Chi Town,

But I had no idea what Chi Town was...

Ahh.. only on anandtech...

You really should expand your hip hop library/knowledge if you claim Kanye of all people as the #2 rapper of all time...

nas, rakim, big, jay-z, kool g rap, black thought, gza, andre 3000, redman, masta ace, common, raekwon, talib, big l, pharaohe, ghostface, canibus, mos def,
killah priest, aceyalone, ras kass, big pun, az, chino xl, gift of gab, kurupt, prodigy, jeru the damaja, immortal technique, crooked i, vakill, vinnie paz,
papoose, del the funky, tonedeff, mf doom, ice cube, tech n9ne, inspectah deck, mc juice, cormega, aesop rock, tupac

I put all of those above before Kanye. He'd be lucky to make it to the top 150.

I consider him to be one of the greatest musicians ever.

Hip Hop Producers? Yes. Musicians? No.

And I'm a 'Ye fan...

Yeah, I didn't realize that at first, either.

If you listen to the lyrics, though, it becomes evident even before he says it's about Chi Town (stupid nickname for a city, btw).

And while I think both Kanye and Jay-Z are both good producers and collaborators, I think they are only slightly above average rappers. I prefer rappers who use intelligent lyrics and convey a positive message. Lupe Fiasco is my favorite at the moment.
