I just purchased my A+ certification vouchers!

I know most people here don't give two craps about their existing A+ cert but I'm jolly as it will open up doors for me. I don't have work "experience" thus having this cert (if I pass) will help tremendously!

you know, i've been meaning to get that for the past 5yrs now... just got to get around to finding out how up to date it is...

Oh cool. I heard the newer ones are only a little bit difficult not because of the technical questions, but the windows procedural questions. "What blha blah process do you have to stop before blah blah in order to successfully backup blah". Buddy of mine took it and passed, but he said the way some of the questions are worded is a bit lame. Anyways, post here afterward and let us know how things went. GL! 🙂

Congratulations, Nocturnal. 🙂 I got mine about 18 months ago and i'm very happy that I did. Most of the folks that say "It doesn't mean squat!" Don't have any official certifications.

It's the same thing as a college degree in "basketweaving." I have 10 years work experience in "this field" but no degree. You have no experience, but a BA in the same field. They will hire you instead and for more money.

I start my Server 2003 MCSE track on 21 June. A+ will get you motivated...if you like PCs and networking, that is. 🙂

purchased???

A+ is fine, but frankly it doesnt do jack.. that cert really doesnt do jack, cause the last guy who had an A+ that i worked with could not even build a computer by himself.

Any many people that have an MCSE in Server 2000 can't even build a new User Account by themselves.

While the piece of paper does not prove ABILITY, it does prove that you have that Official Piece of Paper.

Case in point. How many people know how to drive, but have no license?

Better yet: How many people have a license, but don't know how to drive?

good point.. but that peice of paper has been a headache to me.

I had a guy with an MCP that couldnt install windows, another who claimed to have some cisco stuff, and was hired for it.. and then promptly connected an uplink to an uplink (mind you it was labelled as uplink) thus isolating half the network from the other half.

Come and hire me then! I can install Windows with my eyes closed j/k. I can build/troubleshoot, slight network, a whole slew of stuff. It's funny that most of the time those kind of people are hired yet there are people like me, who do not have certs yet, waiting to be hired, and can also get the job done right the first time around.
