I just played (acoustic) guitar for three hours straight

I usually play electric, I haven't played acoustic for an extended period of time in years. I forgot how tough steel string guitars can be on your fingers. They feel like they're literally falling off.

My martin has bronze strings, even worse. Trust me.

Yeah, well my Ovation has steel strings, and they are nowhere near as tough as this fender acoustic was.

i recently started playing guitar.. (cough cough 2 weeks cough cough).. i started with an acoustic.. and now i am playing an electric.. i thought my fingers were just used to it by now.. and that is why the electric is much easier on my fingers.. obviously that is not the case! what are electric guitar strings made of?

WIth an elec. you dont have to press down nearly as hard, because the sound is amplified.

SWEET! You should carry around a small recording device with your guitar for times like that. It's those impromptu groups that sound THE BEST. I LOVE playing like that. Being a drummer, I can usually find just about anything to build a beat with. When I went to Seattle for a week's vacation years ago, I managed to screw around with a guy playing his guitar down by something called Jim's Market or something like that. Close to the underground.

Only with an amplifier. 😉 I don't always plug in cause *someone* is in the other room watching tv...

well what happens to me is that i play for a whole day or so and try to learn more... then it hurts like a b*tch for a couple of days... and within those days i lose interest... and start from square one. 😕

I wish I could've recorded it, it was really a blast. In Jerusalem street bands are all over. They had these guys drumming on these middle eastern dombuke's (sp?) (like a mini bongo), it was really enjoyable. They always happen to have extra instruments lying around, and you can just pick one up and join in. I love it. 🙂

I know that feeling. If you play electric on 9 guage or 10, you will still be fine.
