A bit off topic, but does anyone know why some areas of the US have different octane levels available than others? When I lived in Indiana, the three choices at the pump were typically 87, 89, and 93 octane. Since I moved to Arizona, I haven't seen a single gas station in Arizona that sells higher than 91 octane.

Depends on the elevation. Wyoming and Colorado for instance both have average elevations of 7,000ft and only need 85octane to prevent detonation in most engines.

Here is a chart with all of the states elevations.
Highest, Lowest, and Mean Elevations in the United States

Lookinh at that chart I would assume Utah, Arizona, New Mexico and Montana also start at a fairly low octane level.

i paid 2.43 for 91octane yesterday morning - sucks but you gotta just live with it.

i have realized that grannying my car is not worth it.

i drive like 2hrs a day. i end up gaining like 2mpg if i granny it. but it takes away ALL the fun out of driving. So i have made the decision to just get back to normal driving - with my uncontrolled heavy right foot .

about 2.20 a gallon here when i get lucky. why dont you get the 87 oct for 30 cents cheaper? half the people i see filling up on that crap dont even need it

WADA WUNG DUNG?

$2.02 here. So glad my rents pay for gas... at least until I start working (have a job, but don't really start work until summer), then I'll get pissed about rising gas prices. Cost me $34 today to fill up

did we really need another gas thread? yes...we know gas prices are higher than they have been. get over it or do something about it other than complain. I hate it too, but what am i going to do about it? Drive less. That's what. big deal.

Drive less? I really only use my car to drive to work, so there goes that rational. I can't carpool, because no one lives around me where I work. Yes, it sucks. Yes, I can complain 😉

....IF you have a fuel efficient car.

I have a fuel efficient car, and I just use it to drive to work. Taking the bus takes about an hour and a half longer IN EACH DIRECTION, and my schedule is weird enough that I can't carpool. So, I get to complain about gas just as much as I like, thank you very much 😉

Nowadays I fill only $ 1 or $ 2 worth of gas.. even if it means going to a gas station every alternate day. Low gas= less reason to drive without reason.

Workplace is only 3 mile saway. That helps too.

This winter I'm going to buy a tanker truck and buy a crapload of gas when it's cheap. Then next summer I'll find a nice spot beside a gas station and sell it for $0.10 cheaper so we can get a price war going and everyone will get gas for like $0.80 😀
