OK, so you guys with mondo-fast machines can just close this thread before you die laughing.
I have had a Celeron 500 for a year now. i just bumped her up to 563MHz. So far no problems. Next step looks like 593 and then 608. BTW I only have the retail hs/fan. I also have one side of my case off (not necessarily for this, it's been off for months now). SHould I give it 24hrs before I try the next level?
Anything else I should do?

You've certainly waited long enough - few are patient enough to wait more than a few minutes, and you've waited a year! Go for it!

Well, I have an update. After I overclocked, I left the house for a few hours. When I came back my pc was in Safe Mode????? My brother needed it to do some work so I just changed it back to 500MHz. SHould I attempt it again? Should I go buy some thermal paste or some other kind of cooler stuff?? SHould I change the voltage? I don't want to spend very much on it since I will be upgrading in the near future and the celeron will probably sit in a drawer somewhere.
What should I do next?
Thanks

your cpu should be able to do better than that. try upping the voltage slightly. i had been able to bring my celeron 400 right up to 570 without any problems using the thermal paste and cpu fan that came in the original retail box. oh, you should make sure you have enough casing fans for good air flows within the casing as well.

you might wanna try a better HSF although i dont think your gonna get much more out of that celly 500 , they really dont clock up that well. id stick with 563 until you can upgrade your system . then you could always transfer your new/better HSF over when you upgrade , so it wouldnt be a waste of money.

Should I try to up the voltage AND put thermal paste on it? I've never messed with thermal paste. Can you get it at Radio Shack or where? Is it permenant? Should I just try to bump the voltage up a bit and see what that does?
thanks

OK, I got it back to 563 with the voltage up to 2.05. Seeing that the last time I tried this my pc ended up in SAfe Mode, should I leave it like this before I try and go for more? Could the voltage increase have been all that I needed?
BTW I have been surfing and I also played UT for about 5 minutes. It seems that it would have crashed bby now??

Also Why would it have gone into Safe Mode before?
ANy more info?
