Right now its @ 797 mhz .......I am currently using the abit sl6 mobo. This has a heatsink on it so should this remain stable right now? Can I go higher? If so how high before I need central A/C in my case?

generally those p3s run cool.
can you monitor your cpu temperature in windows?
a better hsf than the stock intel one would be a good investment if you're o/clocking.
and yes, it should o/clock futher but you may also need to increase the cpu voltage to stabilise the o/clock! :)

Abit VT6X4 P3-600E Coppermine socket 370 at 140 X 6 = 840mhz using Golden Orb cpu fan and 4 Panaflo 120mm case fans.

I have a msi 6309 with a p3 600e running at 800mhz. It has been running this way for many months now. Initially, I was able to even push it up to 900mhz. Normal windows operation (surfing, business applications, photoshop, etc.) would be fine, but when I play and 3d games it would crap out.

I would be interested to see how hot the cpu does get. What do most people use to measure the temperature of their cpu? Is there software that can do this generically for every motherboard or do you use a physical thermostat of some sort to do the measuring?

So what do you do, put it back to 600MHz?
BTW, is that a 75GXP on your rig?

No, I am still running it at 800mhz. I can play 3d games stable at this rate. I just couldn't play it stable at 900mhz. And, Yes the IBM is a 75GXP.

I have a Celeron 600e which I have clocked to 810, if I go higher it becomes a bit unstable. I've had it up to 900, but was unstableFunny thing is the AUS mobo looses the voltage setting every so often. I have to go back to 600, reboot, and change the settings again.

I have a PIII 650 @ 820 running on my Soyo 6BA+III which uses the thermal diode inside the cpu to measure temps. To read the bios temps I use Mother Board Monitor v4.18 & calibrate it appropriatly:).(I don't like v5 btw).

Currently maxing out the cpu with SETI it is running at 55C with a case temp of 35C (it's hot in here:().

Check out the specs on your m/brd to see how that measures cpu temps

650 p3 coppemine at 866mhz, stable. Under full load, 115 -120 degrees, far. with alpha HS. It looks like this will still be my main system for another week or two because of damn EpoX's athlon MB's.
