I want to play games and get the most performance and from what ive come to understand the nvidia chipsets out perform via. I have an x800 pro agp and of course didnt need to replace it, so i opted for the highly awarded msi neo2 plat with the nforce3 ultra chipset. did i make a mistake getting an msi board, considering the other topics on this forum? the gigabyte nf3 board has no good reviews or feed back and all the other mobo's with nf3 ultra are noname cheapo's. Would I really be better off with the gigabyte or the via 800pro's from abit or asus? the techs ive spoken with from amd, bfg, and nvidia have all said that asus is the best, msi and gigabyte are second best and abit is a close third, but then all said when i asked them which mobos they use at home and work personally the answer was msi everytime.

athlon 64 4000+ = s939... nforce3 = s754

don't open the box, just return it and get an nforce4 board...dfi, asus or msi all make good boards.

hmmmm the chipset is the nvidia nforce3 ultra, its the 939 socket agp supporting chipset, msi and gigabyte are the only two namebrands that have it

Where did you take that??? common, do some seach before posting....

nforce3 = AGP =socket 754 or 939
nforce4 = PCIe=socket 754 or 939

So, if this guy exchange this board to the nforce4, he will end up with a PCIe board for his AGP card, which is obviously not the way to go in his case...

should i send it back, would i have to spend alot more money to get what your talking about, my budget was 450, but stretched another 50 and got it for 500. if your talking about the duel core cpu or a 4200 i wouldnt be able to afford those, could barely afford this one but got it on special.

what is the E0 or E3 anyways, a new cpu ie 4200 or fx55 or a better 4000 or are you talking about Intel?

The E3 stepping of A64's are the new "Venice" core chips. These sport a few new features, such as SSE3, SSOI (Strained Silicon On Insulator), as well as others. They will reportedly OC better than any other previous core, including the famed Winchester. I wouldn't worry about it, since the chip you got is essentially an FX-53, with the multiplier capped.

As far as the MSI mobo goes, you're fine. I've been using the same board since November, and have yet to run into any problems with it, even OCed to 2.64GHz. Its, IMO, the best AGP-bound Socket 939 board out there. It's far better than any VIA-based board, and it is also better than some other nForce3-based boards as well. If you have an AGP card, then the Neo2 is definitely the way to go.

I just upgraded to this board with the 3000+ Venice chip. I'm using Mushkin Level 1 DDR 217 (PC3500) RAM (512MBx2). It's very stable and very overclockable.
A question to all MSI Neo 2 owners in this forum: For some reason Windows refuses to "find" the second LAN port and my Audigy 2 ZS sound card. It's like they aren't even there. I've tried clean-installing Windows as well as manually installing drivers and switching the card from one PCI slot to another. No luck. I was just wondering if any other owner of this board experienced these problems.

Thanks,
Igor
