part of this is because I want to switch to t-mobile from verizon and needed a phone.

Yes $600 is a bit more than I'd like to have paid. Went to the store the other day tried all sorts of phones and even the woven back texture is massively superior to say the metal on the htc one, or that plastic on the moto droid maxx / s4. It just feels fantastic. And it seems plenty fast, I mean I am pretty technical but had I not known you could tell me it had 4 cores and why wouldn't I believe you right?

I think it'd feel more ok if it was say $500 though honestly. I did pick up a motorola admiral on ebay for $25, so going to use that for the trade up for $100 off so I guess that will defer some of it. Or at least I'll feel less bad.

Its funny because for me the feel of a phone is a big deal so I guess I'm paying for ergonomics. Then again you are talking to a guy who gushes about the special steering wheel that came with his car or the activation pressure of the keys on a particular keyboard (i have a freestyle 2 it is awesome, buy one).

Oh well just ordered it, will report in when it comes!

Congrats. I'm jealous. The phone is a perfectly sized for me personally. I've been thinking the ideal size phone for me is the Nexus 4 screen size with narrower (near non-existent) bezel, and the moto X is just that. I am not in a hurry to buy a new phone at this time but if I were to Moto X would be a strong contender. I don't know if I can pony up $600 for a phone, though.

Are you planning to use a case? I would have a huge dilemma with it.

You summed up my thoughts, saved me a bunch of typing. Can't wait to hear the user reports on this phone.

AT&T store below work has them in stock (and hopefully a G2 display model) so I can finally check these phones out in person.

not planning to use a case, i mean half the awesomeness of this phone is it feels great in your hand. really the perfect size for my hands. i've currently got a razr M which is a good size but its a bit boxy so i think the X is slightly better in hand. my razr m is little beat up after a year, but motorola makes pretty durable phones so im not too worried about breaking the x, though i know itll have little nicks and such. I mean in the end its a phone, not a baby .

The other phones honestly are too big and as a person who doesn't like to use cases a big phone plus a slick back of some sort like the metal on the One and the glass on the nexus 4 seem like that is just asking for it since well they get a little unwieldy . saw a galaxy mega the other day and i was 100% sure it was the type of phone i'd drop about 500 times.

I've never used a case more than a week or so on a phone. just kind of takes away from the phone in general, phones arent really designed with a rubber shell in mind. but i have dropped plenty of phones. I guess i'm used to knowing its going to get messed up... keep phones about a year and I suppose I just consider it the cost of being a geek.

No doubt its a great phone but not for $600.
Should have went with the Nexus 4 for $249 and partied up with the other $351.

Pamela Anderson from Barb Wire.

<<above was a joke, I actually don't find her THAT attractive, and I never saw the movie>>

Yeah I seriously thought about that. Hell now that you mentioned it again I'm starting to slightly doubt my choice haha.

But yeah sometimes its nice to get the obviously overpriced item and be the first one you know with one. I already know I'm gonna be pissed off if they lower the price in a week

I really just want to see the phones in person before I decide between the Droid x, S4, and G2.

The horrible camera on the droid x is really my major gripe with that phone. I could care less about how many cores it has. The S4 and G2 have much better cameras, and the G2 has amazing battery life on top of all that. It going to be hard to justify buying the droid X over the S4 and G2, but I'm hoping that it feels great in hand because I love the way the design looks.

What he said.

If the Moto X was $100 cheaper and it allowed you customize with MotoMaker right now instead of buying the bloated AT&T version with locked boot loader or waiting until the end of the year, it would be worth it.

The Droid X is a 3 year old phone. Why are you comparing it to a GS4 and LG G2 camera?

I like the Moto X but not for $600. I could probably list ten phones that would objectively be better at that price.

its strange but i guess i'd say the way i see it is more like. for my purposes most of the $600 phones aren't really any better than this. I actually don't see a huge difference between a midrange spec and high spec phone. So in a way I kind of see this as like, the most polished and best mid range phone ever. and im overpaying for polish. since im obviously not overpaying for components.

i suppose the only compelling $600 ish phone for me given i think most midrange phones are not lacking in screen or cpu too much these days is the lumia 1020 since the camera is just really standout. but yeah windows phone i dont think i would want as a primary phone. i'm actually switching to t-mobile from verizon, so i might actaully get a 521 also in addition to the moto x..

Right. The spec junkies may want to obsess over whether a phone has tomorrow's hardware, but there are other factors to consider - in this case, that could be features that you want to use and ergonomics that work for you.

As for the suggestion to buy a Nexus 4: http://www.androidcentral.com/nexus-fans-take-moto-x

But in the end, when you need a smartphone that's a productive tool, the Moto X just does it better than any other I've tried. I purposefully put off writing this for about a month, just to make sure the new-phone feeling went away, and I still feel the same way.

And that's from someone who's a pretty hardcore advocate of the Nexus program.

Still doesn't make any sense to pay $600 for a Moto X over a $250 Nexus 4...
Anyone recommending a $250 Nexus 4 over a $600 Moto X is most certainly not a specs junkie.

They should drop the price of that phone with all the Snapdragon 800 phones coming out this month. The LG G2 came out now, you would think the Moto X value would drop a little.

Maybe not to you, but I think glass backed phones are a terrible idea - both ergonomically and for durability. That's before taking into consideration the LTE support, active notifications and Motorola Assist. Sure, some attempts have been made to emulate the software features, but they've been pale imitations.

As for the cost difference, a Moto X costs CAD$550 - or about US$525. That $300 cost difference is trivial to me, though someone who's tighter with money might think differently.

Anyone recommending a $250 Nexus 4 over a $600 Moto X is most certainly not a specs junkie.

That was a response to a separate point - hence the "As for the suggestion".

Well the nexus 4 IS a very good deal right now. Its pretty much the only other phone that I considered because its value was just so good , but in the end it really wasnt the phone I wanted. I guess I'm at that point where I don't just buy things because its good for what I'm paying, I just get what I want as long as its not outside of reason (i.e. $2000 for a phone ro something crazy)

the $300 is pretty trivial for me too, I make pretty good money so its better to get something you actually want than just save $300 and get something you really don't want, but in the end you don't want to just set $300 on fire without at least thinking about it. Probably a bad habit.

Right, I'm assuming you're not putting yourself in debt to buy a new toy.

Battery life and camera performance would be two things that make the price difference justifiable, from my point of view. Others may value other features that aren't offered or up to par on the Nexus which would strike the Nexus from the list of choices.

Since T-Mobile seems to be taking a more hands-off approach with this device, I'm wondering about a few things that hopefully you can answer when it arrives:

1. Do they print the T-Mobile logo on the back of the device?
2. Do they bundle any T-Mobile apps at all, particularly Wi-Fi Calling?
3. Is Google Wallet included, and if not, can you install it from the Play Store?

Its a handsome phone. Many phones coming out with the bruteforce tech that overshadow the X, but something about it makes me take a second look. Mostly the stuff you mentioned, but after reading Klug's review I came away with negative opinion than going in. I think the HTC One is easily the best phone, but all of sudden its just look gaudy since the X. I don't know how that happened but it did.

Something is appealing about the X it seems to have a sense of vision with it. But so do the iphone and HTC I feel. Then there are the phablets which really are future less products but in present day all that hardware has to be reckoned. Point is there alot of tough choices, you made a good one.
