I was moving my task bar around when I noticed that the task bar looks darker when I place it at the top of my screen. I set my background to a solid color a noticed that it looks like a gradient going dark to light from top to bottom. Is this because of my LCD viewing angle? I tilted my screen around and noticed that no matter what, the top looks darker than the bottom.

Yes its due to the viewing angle.

Another thing about the 600M is its so-so battery life. Even some old P3 M laptops get close to 4 hours.

Hmmm.... perhaps you replied to the wrong thread.

Anyways, I can't seem to find a viewing angle that makes the top and bottom the same. I guess this is just how LCD's are.

Igowerf actually sounds like the lcd is probably going. I fix laptops for living and usually you will see the lcd just go totally out in about 6 months - 1 year on average.

If it is still under warranty send it back and get the lcd fixed.

No, the LCD isn't going, probably. Its a combination of viewing angle and blacklight placement. Usually the backlight is at the bottom of the LCD, making the bottome appear brighter than the top.

That's good to know. It's not really that noticeable unless I put a solid color on my screen or I move the taskbar around. Even if it does die, my 3 year warranty with Dell will cover it. :)

It is most likely the viewing angle, especially if your unit is a "lower end" unit. I have seen some laptops that have a hard to find "sweet spot" for viewing the LCD. If the bulb was going out, you would more likely find that the right hand side of the LCD was brighter than the left rather than the bottom being brighter than the top, unless your bulb was positioned vertically in the LCD and I haven't seen any recent ones that do. What I do commonly see is slight variances along the bottom of the LCD causing parts of the taskbar to be brighter than the rest of the taskbar. This usually does not show any farther up the LCD than the standard height of the taskbar. That kind of problem is due to the metal the buld is held in being bent or warped a little.
