My fiance's grandad passed away this winter after a long bout with some muscle disease, aggravated by syrossis of the liver due to alcoholism. It was sad to see him go and it makes me feel like a vulture for this, but anyway... My fiance's mother inherited his house and immediately moved into it, and left her house to us. The mortgage has been paid, so as far as I know we just have to pay tax, and insurance. We haven't sat down and figured everything out yet, but her mom is a CPA so I'm sure it'll get taken care of.

Anyway, I'm pysched. It's three bedroom, two living room, two bath, two car garage, and in a great neighborhood of a town just outside of Amarillo. Part of me would have liked her grandad's house, it's a tad smaller, but sits on about 30 acres.

Cliffs:
ole lady's grandad drank himself to death.
we get house that's paid for handed to us.
i post on ATOT.

Come on over!

BYOB? 😛

But really, congrats! Must be a good feeling.

Pics? 😀

Just edited that last post of mine. It's still full of boxes and some of the mother in law to be's stuff is still in the house. But as soon as it's set up pics will arrive.

edit: crap I don't even know where my camera is........ I JUST moved in today.

There is nothing wrong with inheriting a house, in fact it is pretty rare now. Most families would probably just sell it like mine did when my grandpa passed away.

Did she change the deed into your name? I assume that you can't just give out houses like that without some taxes involved.

Congrats! Consider yourself BLESSED. Most people dont have that kinda favor.

Yeah I know. I grew up in a two bedroom house with my four brothers and the folks. My parents just now bought a house that they can pay for, and they're both over fifty. Mmm, I just telling the little woman about how much I loved that government cheese.

Congratulations man!!
And dang, you unpack and move in fast. It looks like you have been there a while already🙂

The old furniture stayed where it is, but as I set up my office (not the rig in the sig, obviously) exactly the way I want it, so the old lady does with her dolls and dishes. Our furniture was pretty ghetto (the chair in the foreground), and her mom let us keep her dining room table, couch, and some other stuff. It's kind of confusing about what'll still be here in a week and what won't. I hope she comes and takes her stuff soon, but the front of the house is all ours.

edit: i wish they would let me keep the old boat that still in the driveway.

Congrats on the house, and sorry to hear about the death though.

Good to see someone else on here from around the Amarillo area, I am in Canyon.
Good luck on getting everything unpacked and setup.

Thanks. I knew there had to be ATers around here somewhere. I was in Amarillo, yesterday, but now in Dumas. It's a sh*thole small town, but AMA isn't that far away. (40minutes)
