Left Vermont yesterday (Saturday) at 3:45pm EST, arrived here in Victoria, BC at 8:10am PST, today (Sunday). Almost 20 hours of total travel time, including 3 horrible hours in Atlanta (even Newark was better), and 8 hours sitting in a plastic chair at SeaTac.

But I'm officially a Permanent Resident now, and for the next few to many years I'm on the totally opposite side of the continent from where I spent the first 25 years of my life. Funny how it was probably the biggest move in my life, yet I didn't even give it a second thought.

Victoria is pretty nice albeit a little bit boring, my uncles own Cordova Bay Golf Course.

Welcome to the world of Delta. Possible flight plans were from Vermont to Chicaco/Newark/N. Kentucky/NYC, then to SeaTac. Just happened that the Delta flight plan was cheaper by $40 or so, found out why. Last time I flew out was United, when I went from SeaTac to Victoria they handled my luggage and all that, this time I had to leave the security area, claim my baggage, then wait 4 hours for ticket booths to open to check back in, go back through security, because Delta wouldn't handle it for me.

BTW I've flown about half a dozen times since 9/11, never ONCE been detained, searched, had a metal detector go off, lost luggage, anything. Takes me a solid 10 minutes to breeze through every time.

Cool. Why did you decide to move?

My wife is from Victoria. I was born and raised in VT, my parents (dad especially) always raised me to be self-sufficient, not to depend on anybody for too much. We spent all sorts of time at Scout camps when I was young, hanging out at friends' houses for days at a time, stuff like that. So when my parents moved south to Virginia a few years ago, it didn't even phase me. My wife is from a very close-knit, traditional Chinese family, and has a lot of relatives in Victoria, so it just seemed like the right choice for me to move here, instead of her moving to Vermont.

Plus, Vermont just sucks hard.

The skiing's good.

So visit, just don't ever live there. Expensive as hell, low paying jobs, the state is filling up with a-hole flatlanders, and when you have to deal with -10F for 6 weeks straight every year it just wears on you.

Welcome to Sea Tac airport.

I wonder if there are still marks there from where I hurled near the baggage claim a few years ago ;).

Oh well... Back to Sea Tac for a vacation to Florida...

Btw, Victoria B.C. is a very nice place (I took the Victoria Clipper, give me a break :laugh;).

Saw japanese girls from a female academy... Woo... I wish I had a camera :(.

Victoria's a nice little city and if skiing is a concern there's plenty of excellent ski hills within a couple(ish) hours drive.

Please forgive Evadman for ruining your home state, in the interest of ATOT peace! ;)

I once flew LAX (or Ontario, can't remember exactly) to Calgary via Dallas. Would have made more sense to stop over in Seattle, Salt Lake City, or even Denver. But American hub is in Dallas.

-10° for 6 weeks sounds awesome.

Unfortunately not when I went. It was windy, about 20 degrees, and a thin layer of snow dusted over a rock solid sheet of ice. I lasted about 3 hours that weekend. :(

People from Vermont call that "good conditions."
