So, offcourse sp1 was working very good, without too many major bugs.
That got Bill and his freinds quit worried, satisfied customers is one thing they are not willing to put up with!
So they came up with this genius invention called sp2!
Its idea is very simple, take everything that used to work well, and f*ck it up.
Plain, simple, straight forward (right up the user's a$$) - just like Bill likes it.
Thank you Bill! If it wasn't for you I might have enjoyed a weedend with my new computer. Thank you from sparing me that agony!

Thank you, thank you, and f*ck you! (Dennis Leary)

Edit: as usuall had to correct my godamn spelling...

Thanks for the valuable input. I'll take it into consideration.

You wanted input? I didn't see any questions in your post. I just saw a childish rant that used the same tired argument that all issues with SP2 are Microsoft's fault.

Idle complaining. Do something about it or STFU.

You're welcome to join those of us in *nix-land at any time, by the way.

"Its" doesn't have an apostraphe when used in the posessive.
It's spelled ingenious

Nice try, though

Oh, can we pick apart his grammar too? :p

Things don't "work good", as you put it, narcotic. They "work well". ;)

Since this is intended to be contrary to fact (or is it?), you ought to use the subjunctive, so it reads "If it weren't," you dumbass. Not that many others here would know this.

Hmm...Statisfied SP2 user here.. What problems are you having? If this is a new install of XP+SP2, You should be fine as that is the best time to install SP2, Instead of down the road later. Even then, I still haven't had really any issues with SP2.

I was only trying to find mistakes in the corrections, not the OP. I have been trying to ignore the OP.

<sarcasm> Yeah, SP2 did nothing useful like cause one of the largest dropoffs in the number of machines in bot networks in years. </sarcasm>

The error you point out is in both the original and corrected versions; the error I point out is in both the original and corrected versions.

What exactly is a bot network?

Read this virus description: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_132598.htm

Highlights:
Remote Access Functionality

Once running, and under remote command by the hacker(s) a wealth of functionality is available. Given the bot can also be instructed to update itself, and download/execute other binaries, there will likely be other rootkits and backdoors installed on compromised machines.

Functionality includes:
  • view, modify Registry data
  • browse filesystem
  • browse, terminate, start processes
upload, download, delete, modify, execute files
  • run FTP server
  • run HTTP proxy
  • run SOCKS proxy
  • run TCP proxy
  • disable shares on victim
  • harvest data (see below)
  • launch DoS attack from victim machine
  • perform network scans (locate other vulnerable machines)
It also will try to steal your games' CD keys (!) and spreads itself using an array of different known vulnerabilities and common weaknesses. This is what it means for a computer to be in a botnet, more or less.

Not all botnets are bad. It might be better if it's described as a "zombie botnet" or something. :p

I guess distributed computing projects and render farms would be beneficial botnets :D In the context that dev0lution was talking about, I think this is the answer to TechnoPro's question though.

To the original poster... it's stretching things to say that WinXP SP1 is "without too many major bugs" when you can't leave it connected to a broadband modem for five minutes without a significant risk of a worm infection, for starters. Sure, you know to run a firewall and/or a router, keep your antivirus up-to-date and etc, but how about the average person out there?
