One of my friends who works for the local PD calls me up and wakes me from my nap.

"Hey we got a guy here with a 14 inch shotgun. Is that legal?"
"Lemme look it up in the book....shit I cant find the book lemme check the computer"
"Ok"
"Anything less than 18 inches without a tax stamp is illegal. Call ATF and put him in jail."
"Well he's already in jail"
"Sweet!"

Note, the penalty chapter reads:

Any person who violates or fails to comply with any provisions of this chapter shall, upon conviction, be fined not more than $10,000, or be imprisoned not more than ten years, or both.

Whoever he clicked up is about to have a very very bad day.

Want so bad, dont want to deal with the strings attached to the $200 tax stamp.

you had to look this up? are you supposed to be a national firearms act consultant or just a general lawyer?

wait, I thought a short shotty was an AOW $5 stamp?

for the serbu i linked, apparently serbu pays the $200 and the buyer just pays the $5 AOW fee (AOW is "Any Other Weapon")

the serbu with pistol grip and smooth bore is an AOW

murderers and rapists have gotten less than 10 years in prison. just insane.

I found out some more details. Apparently he was out on a domestic violence call and they found this. He logged it into evidence and they will be calling ATF on Monday.

Theres no excuse for having a sawed off without your tax stamp. All other gun owners are generall ylaw abiding, so this kind of thing is frowned upon.

Soon to be SOT paying gun dealer.

You are correct, no excuses for that. Honestly I'd take my mossberg 500 defender over a 14".

Its legal, just pay Uncle Sam the $200 instead of doing what was done in No Country for Old Men.

My point was there should be no question to legality nor tax stamps. The "shall not be infringed" part means I am constitutionally allowed to buy any firearm or weapon I want, take it anywhere, and display it however I wish.

damn. so much for what i was saying. he'll probably get the book thrown at him, and rightfully so, heh.

Sawed off shotgun in NC is considered a weapon of mass destruction, no I am not making that up. I have seen it charged many many times.

Agreed. Just get the stamp. And if you're modifying weapons keep then where they can't be found.

The crazy part is that they found this on their SECOND TRIP. They left earlier and basically said "don't make us come back here...." and the second time it was basically security for the social worker to look into the welfare of the kids. Thats when they found the shotgun in the kids room.
