So I was at OfficeMax today shipping off two packages (I've been using them instead of UPS due to lower shipping costs). Last week, they had run out of "Ground" forms, so they had been using "Express" forms for you to fill out.

The guy that is normally there that I go to would just write "GROUND" in big letters vertically down the right hand side of the form so that it would go ground instead of Express. Well, today, the store manager was working the counter. STILL no "Ground" forms, so he picked up an "Express" form. I specifically told him "Ground" and he handed me the forms for the packages and I filled them out. Well, everything goes as usual, and I pay my $7.65 a piece for each box going to California (one for eBay, one for AT FS/FT).

So I get out to the car and start looking at the copy of the "Express" form that he gave me back. I noticed that the didn't write GROUND on the form...I didn't think too much of it then. Then just now I checked the online tracking for the packages and sure enough, they're both going Airbone Express overnight (by noon tomorrow) instead of Ground. I pulled out the copies of the forms and it says in bold letters "Shipment will default to Express if no box is checked"

SCORE!!!!!!!!!! Thanks Mr. OfficeMax Manager!! :p

I should have two very surprised (and happy) customers tomorrow :D

not really cheaper. but occasionally faster. i've actually had ground packages arrive cross country (LA to PA) overnight. but then some also take the full 5 days.

They're always cheaper for me. And the fact that OfficeMax runs $5 off and 50% off specials every other week or so seals the deal for me :D

If you send documents regularly, Airborne Express is the best overnight service.
Buy a bulk pack of prepaid overnight flat rate envelopes for $110, and you get 10 envelopes with free pickup.

Arrives next morning.

LOT cheaper than FedEx/UPS First Overnight. Very reliable too.

Too bad I don't ship anything that requires an envelope...

Do I have to open a personal account with Airborne? Also, do they accept credit cards?...I remember shipping a package through an Airborne office and they wouldn't take credit cards.

Wouldn't they charge you or your buyers extra since you did not pay the full amount, once they realize their mistake?

It's billed back to the store. Same with UPS

No.

If you ship at an OfficeMax (or CopyMax adjacent to an OM) you pay them with cash, check or charge and they ship it for you via AE.

I love them too!

I have my own airborne account and it works great. Cheap shipping and they actually ship your packages with care unlike UPS.

I love OM, they make some classic blunders in your favor. My favorite was the Hot Deal combo for a set of Logitech Z340's and a 48x burner. There was an MIR on the burner and a $35 off $100 coupon. The Z340's were on sale for $40 bucks. I pick up the deal, take it home, and the burner was DOA. So I take it back looking for an exchange and the OM employee didn't feel like going back to get me another burner. Really strange. She just said that she didn't think that they had any more in stock and she "didn't have the time" to go back and look. So I said, ok, just give me a refund for the burner. And I walked away with the Z340's for $5 bucks. :)
