so i'm on my way back from a soccer game in philly, and some kid wants me to help him with his bike. fair enough, i help him and carry his bike to his house. his bike was busted - the front wheel would not rotate. i'm not mechanically inclined, so i couldn't fix it on the spot. on the way back he sasy, "i want to steal someone else's bike so i don't have to use this one."

greeeeeat:disgust:
i should have dropped his bike there and said "you're on your own" but being the nice person i am, i tried to ask him why he thought stealing was ok. no such luck, he just responded "so?" wouldn't be surprised if this kid landed himself in the slammer after a few years (he's probably 8-10 based on how he looked)
ahhhh great... so this is where america is headed. glad to know:disgust::disgust:

you should have driven him up to a smaller, weaker kid riding, so he could get his new bike

So you base your opinion of the entirety of America's youth on one child?

Every generation throughout history has felt the younger generation was headed for disaster and lamented how bad they were turning out. One can find writings of this back to when man first began to write.

You scoffed at your elders when they voiced this concern, and now look at yourselves... doing the very same thing.

Maybe because america is progressively getting worse?

You thought that was his bike you were helping carry to his house, but in fact you helped him steal someone else's bike.

If you were refering to me my statement was based on my observations of kids over the last 10-20 years.

America is progressively changing...advancing in some areas and regressing in others. In fact, society in general is doing that. It's been that way for a LONG time...it takes a much broader perspective than most of us have to see whether the net effect is positive or negative. It's easy for us to look at history and see how societal upheaval led to good+bad changes, but it's harder to see it when it's happening all around you.

but the fact that this kid was so unconcerned with the morality of his actions/desires... that's what scared me the most. remember, this kid is ~10. if he finds it acceptable now, he's going to graduate to cars and god-knows-what-else
