Sounds like KDE isn't installed properly; perhaps try reinstalling and selecting GNOME for your desktop environment instead of KDE...

I was told that GNOME takes up alot of sys requirments. Anyways I think I forgot to install the libraries cause it says it is missing them. Never noticed before. Thanks.

If you want to test X, don't load a window manager. If it starts, you know you have a problem with KDE, which it already seems like you do.

Basic GNOME applications and the libraries that they use aren't really any more bloated than KDE and its libraries. GNOME is just a lot slower (from what I've heard) when you use its Nautilus (iirc that's what it's called) file manager. I personally prefer KDE anyway, so it's been a while since I've used GNOME, and that's why my memory isn't too great about it. :)

Oh yea, you really should install the KDE libraries as well. That should make it work much better. ;)

kde and gnome are about equally bloated.

why didnt you install kdm? any recent distro installs a display manager so that it boots straight to X. you dont really state which distro you are using though...

I barly know anything about linux but I got it installed. I have copied over the libraries to a partition on my hd (fat32). I am wondering how I change to that partition form root. I though alot of the commands would be somewhat like do but I am not having much luck, can anyone help out or give me a nice site with alot of info for beginners.

yeah i've heard lots of good things about nautilus' speed lately. apparently when eazel made nautilus, they were just focused on adding features and releasing it. from the time they went under until present, most of the work has been on improving the speed. gui file browsers arent my thing really, but i will probably try it out sometime soon just to see how far along it has come :D
