I just installed AIM

Well I think I'm sticking with AIM + DeadAIM myself actually.

I do like how Trillian lets me close windows automatically when I send a message, and notfiy me of new messages via the tray. And I also like the chat windows are formatted better. And the general look of the buddy list.

However, with DeadAIM, I'm surprised by the amount of things I'm allowed to customize, which is why I don't mind keeping it. I'm very glad the Away window hides itself in the tray, so I don't have to have a window open in my taskbar just for being away. I'm also glad and surprised I can choose my own directories for downloads and logs, instead of being forced to keep them where the software chooses. And true, I can't have windows auto-close upon sending a message, but at least there's only ONE window for all my conversations together.

Because those things aren't bad like I expected, and because I can FINALLY have successful file transfers, DCs, and audio and video chats, I guess I'm sticking with AIM + DeadAIM.












But I'll always be a Trillian fan. :heart:
 
One odd thing I must admit, though. There's a portion of the Away and Setup toolbar buttons just hovering in the middle of my buddy list. Just part of the button, and not really there - not clickable. Must be some type of graphical error.

So is Trillian still the best AIM alternative? I just did a clean reformat and install, and I'd rather not use the 'real' AIM anymore...

I cant use Trillian... I use dead aim... toomany buddies, with aim I have the entire screen fillied (vertically) it just barely fits... But with trillian its a scrolling nightmare.
 
I just installed Trillian over the weekend and I'm getting used to it now. My comp feels so clean now 🙂
 
OK can someone tell me what GAIM and Dead Aim and this stuff is. I have been using AIM for a long time. Can i still talk to all my friends who use AIM with these others. Additionally can someone make a recommendation on what to use.

Your link sucks.

Are you talking about DeadAIM?

If so, you cannot use the latest version of aim. The latest you can use is: "AIM_5[1].5.3599" (I copied the .exe for it).

Either GAIM or miranda. Try both, pick one, and tell us what you think. There's not much else to explain.
 
There are two pieces of software right now that I feel are really work actually paying for: Trillian Pro and NOD32.

Holy mother of jesus trillian is NICE. I just bought the pro version because those guys did such a good job. Makes AIM look like a stone table with smoke signals!!
 
I just installed Trillian Basic and it looks really nice. It uses 10mb of RAM while AIM uses 24 and it uses 4 when minimized with a chat window while am uses 10. Very impressive.

The only question i have is the Buddy Info. Is this just an area that Trillian isn't so good in. When it pops up it is a gray background with none of the links in the profile showing up, and all the characters have weird spacing. Is there anyway "fix" this?

Is DeadAIM or the other one offer any significant advantages?

I use AIM.

Before this i have never heard of DeadAIM and therefore have never used it.

SO right now i switched from AIM to Trillian.
