AIM Ad-Hack works quite well. I used that with AIM before I got Miranda IM. I like it mainly because of the many plugins available for it, although it is very minimalistic if you don't use plugins.

Well honestly, Trilllian does certainly have its issues, most notably with file transfers and DCs. Basically, those two things SUCK in Trillian, and it's not much better in the latest version. But I rarely use those features, and even with DeadAIM, I just can't stand AIM's interface, Trillian is so much cleaner and tuned to my likes. I don't even use MSN or Yahoo, but it's nice knowning someone can get ahold of me through those if need be, as I do have names on them and am on them when I'm on AOL.

Besides, isn't DeadAIM not free anymore? So you either have to pay or warez it?

What part of the interface is much better for you? Oh and in trillian can you click links in profiles or does it still only show up as text.

What part of the interface is much better for you? Oh and in trillian can you click links in profiles or does it still only show up as text.

There's a plug-in called MiniBrowser that lets you click links in profiles and see them with their proper formatting.

I particularly like in Trillian how the windows can go away completely once I send a message, and then when a new one comes in, it just waits for me in the tray, like back in the ICQ days. Instead of having a window open constantly in my taskbar.

However, I may switch to AIM + DeadAIM soon anyway, because I really need these file transfers to start working, and I also need video conferencing to work.
 
Perhaps Gaim would be better suited for my needs? Do file transfers work properly in it? Does it support video and audio chat? And can I have windows close after I send a message like in Trilllian?

not very reliable file transfer, though, and I haven't gotten direct IM to work with it. Maybe I have an old version.

I like it cause you only have to tell it to close once by default.

My first IM medium was ICQ, I love having it minimized in the tray. Besides Trillian is purdy.
