I just did a clean install on my older system of Windows 98 Second Edition, an unopened OEM product I found at work. Installation went fine, and my router detects a signal from the computer with the lights lit and everything, showing that the computer should be ready for takeoff. I clicked internet explorer after putting my NIC in and making sure it got a signal, and instead of the browser, I got a pop-up screen that said: "Welcome to MSN Internet Access!
Get Fast, Reliable Internet Access....
We need to install a modem before continuing...
If you need to see the whole message then I could take it all down. So after this, I thought it would be a good idea to open up "My Computer", and try to put the http address of my router in there. For a split second, it went to internet explorer, but then IE quickly closed and The same MSN pop-up came up again, telling me to find my modem. This could work, but the problem is that I use DSL and don't have a modem to bypass the screen. Everything I have tried, and I have had no success in getting my net. Anyone know what is going on? Please help me, this is my mom's computer and she is getting in trouble @ work because she is behind and it's all my fault
P.S. On the MSN pop-up, the selection options are: Next, and Cancel. If you click next, it asks for your modem, and I don't have one. I can't just pick one to bypass, either.
Thanks.
