Just about 5 minutes ago... The whole house shook like crazy, knocked a few pictures off the walls and just scared the ever loving crap out of us.

Almost sounded like a sonic boom from an jet, but i dunno. We have an airport nearby, but it was louder than any ones i've previously heard (in my limited exposure to them). Maybe a fighter going up to McDill in Tampa?

Insanity, all the neighbors ran outside thinking someone's house blew up.

That happened when i was in college. They were doing some work and digging down the road and they hit a natural gas line. Boom!
 
Yeah, the shuttle just landed. I could hear it here on the east coast about 45 miles south of the space center but it wasn't that loud. Dogs started barking, though. The launch was more impressive a few weeks ago. Too bad it was cloudy that night.

A friend of mine sent me a video of a sonic boom simulator where the plane buzzes the tower and the boom blows out the tower windows. I've played that over our system (90,000 watts - 1000 seat theater) and it riled a flurry of security officers! Not to mention scared me into the following week! :shocked:

It's an FLI file that should work with youtube. :evil:

I'm thinking this is the correct answer. Shuttle reentry into the nearby airspace as it was scheduled to land at Kennedy around 8:39 PM EST.

Hmm.. but without knowing aphex's actual location, Southwest Florida doesn't really seem to fit the shuttle reentry path... unless he is located near the path depicted in this image I found.

Wow, I didn't realize the Shuttle traveled faster than the speed of sound minutes before landing. I assumed it slowed to a 350mph glide.
