I just have some thoughts on the Jackson Memorial Service

As everyone knows, we had the Michael Jackson Memorial Service in LA at the Staples Center. What many people don't know is that it's costing the city of LA $4million. LA doesn't have that kind of money to throw around and many people are pissed when that money could have gone to police/teachers/firefighers/etc. and now the city of LA is trying to force AEG Live, the company that owns the Staples Center, to pay for it. I think what the city of LA should have done instead of giving vouchers for just a couple thousand people to be there, they should have had 2 or 3 days of open viewing and that would bring thousands and thousands of visitors to the city of LA and we would make $$$ off of them. This will probably get locked as it's yet another Jackson thread but it's just something that I thought about.

I think they should have just thrown the freak into the dump within minutes of his death.

As a citizen of L.A., I have to agree.

Also, they should have sold the tickets to yesterdays event to pay for it.

With a 9.75% sales tax, the city of la would have needed to gotten 41m in sales to offset the cost

Every single penny it cost LA to put on that memorial service needs to come out of Michael Jackson's estate. I have to pay for my own funeral, why shouldn't he?

I don't think you understand what the city is paying for.

They are charging for all that went in to security. As far as I understand it, the estate and producers, whatever, are paying for the service. They are hoping that AEG will donate some money to help pay the police, and they have already had a website for anyone to donate. The city has been advertising this since early last week.

Complain all you want, but there's no way in hell that this wasn't going to happen for this guy. In a way, it's unfortunate for whatever city this happens in, b/c the city can't irresponsibly ignore the type of security and logistics necessary for the deluge of visitors and media that will invariably descend on the city. They HAD to do something.

didn't it boost the local economy tho...i don't know the figures but they were saying that most of the hotels were booked and lots of people flew in to be outside the venue or whatever.

This really pissed me off. The only people who should have government funded funeral services are high-level officials (President, Vice, Secretaries, etc.) and soilders.

First, California has the worst economy among all other states in the United States. Second, there are soilders who die everyday, and their families have to struggle to receive compensation/money.

Yet, this child molester (I did like his music) gets a government funded service.

I think people who live near fire prone areas should have to pay for the cost of fire fighters protecting their homes.

California doesn't have the worst economy. It has the highest deficit though.
