NOOOOO!!! I hate when you do something stupid and wind up having a hosed machine. I changed my computer type in W2K from standard PC to ACPI, and now it won't boot. I get a bsod upon next boot. Also, I dont have my w2k at my dorm. AHHHH!!!! I hate myself......

The way I avoid doing things like that may seem extreme to some people, but it works for me, as I'm rather reckless by nature. I treat my computer as a mission critical server since, for all intents and purposes, it acts as one. Before I do anything that could even be remotely considered as a moderate change, I make sure I have backups handy, fresh install discs of everything, all the files I need in case the internet flakes out on me. I minimize downtime thru reboots. I still have friends who ask me..."What's QChain?". And you don't know the meaning of the phrase "Mission Critical" until you meet my sister when she's not able to get her fix of the internet or unable to print over the network...really inspires you to get goin. :)

I do the same thing all the time. On the plus side, it gives you a good reason to procrastinate.
