I just HAD to start my own PSP thread...

Even though I wouldn't even consider buying one, the is screen is pretty nice overall. That's the best thing going for it.

The concept of buying DVD movies for that(PSP) @ 20 dollars is outrageous.. I own Spider man 2, am I expected to buy it again?

you get spiider man free when you buy the psp.

I played one yesterday, one of my co-workers brought one in. I admit it is pretty darn nice, but not nice enough for me to hand over $250. Plus there is little point in buying one when there are virtualy no games for it and none original. Wait for the price to drop and more games to come out before you buy.

True, and they use a proprietary disc with memorystick.

I've got one, the speakers sound decent; nothing to write home about. They're probably on par with the DS in terms of sound quality. I read some people saying how great the headphones are, a $10 pair of Sony headphones I bought for my MP3 player sound better. All in all the PSP is a cool unit, but after all the dead pixels(my unit included) i'll be returning it and selling the replacement on Ebay its just not worth $250. Sony is going all out for their idea of convergence, which I think is great, but all the propreitary media they are using is going to alienate most consumers.

theres only like 10 or 15 posts of a PSP on anandtech (yesterday when i checked).... what do you mean "shut the hell up button"?... dont enter the thread if it says PSP if you dont want to hear about it, geesh...

There is an old rule in technical writing - the first time you use an acronym, you define it. Apparently Sony has done it again - made a proprietary change in computer jargon/language. PlayStation Portable is apparently what is being talked about.

New PSP

New PSP

🙂

I will probably be going on a couple road-trips this year. Once it hits $200 (or it gets hacked), I'll probably be purchasing one.

Whats a PSP ?
A new toy to play with

I am wondering, how do the speakers sound? I guess I'll have to go check one out.

Speakers are crap and weak. About standard for handheld portable device. Headphones obviously work much better but it still isn't loud as say iPod or other portable device. I use +1 or +2 sound mode instead of normal when watching movie cause I like my sounds louder. The stock headphones are not that bad although the remote on it is pointless and cheaply made. The headphones are white like the iPod which is strange given the machine is all black. I'm using my Senn PX100 portables and MP3, games, and movies sound excellent.

I bought my son a PSP for Easter and I am pretty excited about it myself.

The graphics are freakin awesome.

Yes, the movies and games are propietary and who wants to buy another copy of a DVD in this format, however, buy a large memory stick duo and you can recode whatever DVDs you have into a format that you can play on the PSP.

I took a couple of the Episode III trailers and put them on it and they look fantastic

Besides movies, games and mp3, I was surprised to find it also will play slideshows of digital photos.

I was able to connect to my home wireless network to check the internet gor updates of which none were yet available.

It will be interesting to see how wireless gameplay (essentially LAN) will be.

It's a very cool toy.

Yes, it does picture photos very well. The nice thing is that since I have Sony digital camera I can take pictures on my Sony camera and take out the memory stick and simply stick that in my PSP and view picture slideshow that way.

People are already viewing web pages and browsing the Net using browser hack in Wipeout Pure, and I'm sure full web browser will be available soon.

People are also using the Photo viewing capability of PSP to view Manga and Jpegbooks.

Sony PSP as Manga Viewer

Cool toy indeed.
