So I just received it in the mail from work, and within the package, there is no installation code.

I already have an account with steam (when I bough HL2). Can any of you Orange Box owners out there enlighten me; don't I need an installation key to add episodes 1,2, portal, etc to my Steam account?

Did I get screwed here?

Thanks,

Rakewell

Orange Box is tied to a Steam account, as far as I know. There isn't any way to [successfully] sell/transfer Steam games to another user. The only way it would work is if they've never installed the software / used the key.

Yes, you got screwed by the seller. The good news is the customer is always right on Amazon.com market place. File for a refund.

Yep, refund FTW!

edit: do NOT try any shenanigans to get it working. Just do the refund. You don't want valve getting irate at your perfectly legitimate steam account.

Right, sending it back right now.

Waited 3 damned weeks for this, too.

Anyone know where the cheapest BRAND NEW Orange Box can be bought?

Thanks all,

Rakewell

Thanks Mundane.

Ordered from CC, going to pickup this afternoon.

Cheers.

PS: After a refund has been issued, does anyone think this is worth leaving a bad review of the seller?

heh reminds me of the douchebags who used to sell Dell OEM XP discs on ebay. People thought they were getting installable discs. Sure the discs came but no key.

Another incident was somebody selling a PS2 box for 600 bucks back in the day. Clearly said on the listing "Authentic PS2 Box". Hehe

No offense to the OP, but you've gotta read the fine print before buying. Make an educated purchase. Caveat emptor.

Ak. I wish I had seen the Orange Box was on sale on Sun so I could have gotten it tax free (tax free weekend here in MA). Oh well, thanks for pointing it out. I think I'll pick up a copy.

No offense taken, you're right. I wasn't thinking when I made the purchase. I won't do that again.

I did; he responded that he didn't have one.

He was actually very cool about it, and said, "Don't bother returning it, it's no use to me now. I'll just refund you".

I don't think he was a swindler, which is why I'm not gonna tear him a new one via ratings. He sells alot of crap for Amazon, and I don't think he's a gamer. He probably figured, "hey, a used videogame!", not realizing that Steam won't stand for sharing (unless gifted by the original owner).

Cheers.

NEVER buy multiplayer game that requires serial/key USED.

While I understand this, I actually picked up a copy of BF2 used back in the day. Never been a problem for me...

It's more of a buyer beware as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't ever do it again, but I really wanted the game and didn't want to pony up the $50 it was when it was released.
