I just got some quotes on a new Dodge truck

I've called 2 dealers and had them fax me a quote on a Dodge truck 3/4 ton, 4 door, auto trans, 4x4, and here are the prices I got from them:

Dealer #1
Diesel engine $33,802

Gas engine $29,164

Dealer #2
Diesel engine $34,518

Gas engine $27,883

Do you guys think those prices are pretty reasonable?

ps. I have not ruled out Chevy nor Ford trucks. I'm just now getting quotes.

You will realize MUCH greater rebates if you stick with the 1/2 ton. I believe it's at $7,000 right now... If you can get employee discounts it's almost $13,000 off MSRP.

Which diesel engine? The 5.9 or the 6.7? 6 speed auto or 4 speed auto?

We walked out the door just under 30k for our 01' 2500 quad cab diesel, long bed, auto, LSD, trailer tow, camper package. So 33 isn't too bad

Too bad Chrysler isnt offering that lifetime warranty stuff on the diesel models.

Around here they are offering 6k rebate, plus another 6k off the price on the 1/2 ton Dodge Ram.

Those prices don't tell me anything. What's the invoice price of those trucks? That is where you should start your dealing from. Sticker is irrelevant.

Get the Diesel, Don't listen to those retarded HEMI commercials. You put 9000lbs behind one of those small block gas engines and go up a real hill you will be bummed. Put it behind the Cummins and you will feel good about your purchase.

Anything less then 500lbs of torque is a waste of money in a full size truck unless you are just gonna haul around an empty bed.

Edit: as far as the Ford and Chevy, all 3 truly do have great Diesels, but GM and Ford do not flex on their prices nearly as much as Dodge can. I honestly don't know how Dodge can offer their stuff so cheap. But if you can get a Diesel for under $35,000 you are doing good, christ GM wants that for their friggin HO gas block.

My 2500 *only* has 430lbs and I haul 8000lbs with little trouble. Oh and just the other day I was hauling around 6000lbs and had to get cross an intersection really fast. Pumping 20 pounds of boost I was still able to break the rear wheels loose.

For what it's worth, my cousin got a 1-ton 4WD dually with the diesel and six-speed for $30k.

I really dont want a dually. Some of the roads I drive are to freaking narrow.

Go to www.turbodieselregister.com forums and read up on the new 6.7 bluetec diesel. They seem to be having some issues with it. The old 5.9 is a proven engine. May want to check to see if they are discontinuing the 5.9. Wouldn't make much sense to have 2 diesel engines in the lineup. If they are, now may be your last chance to get the 5.9

Nothing quite like 500 @ 1800 RPM, you have to drive it to appreciate it 😀

Drnickrivera, they are discontinuing the 5.9. 2007 saw both available, but the 5.9 is in short supply. The 6.7 issues seem to revolve around the low-sulfur diesel fuel (Which is all that will be available shortly), and Ford's new 6.4 and the 6.6 Duramax are also having some difficulties with this new fuel. The 5.9 Cummins got about 2-3 mpg better than the guys with the new 6.7 are reporting. The turbodieselregister is a wealth of info, that's for sure.

As far as the Hemi goes, it is definitely up to the task of towing. But, folks are afraid to keep it in the powerband, but it will run there all day long. Biggest drawback to the Hemi in the 2500-3500 series Dodges is that it just can't bring itself to pass a gas station 🙂

Kaspian, are those quotes for the crew cab SLT model?

Here is a 2007 with the 5.9 Cummins: 2007 2500 Dodge.

The nice thing about the 2007 6.7 liter Dodges is that they come with an optional exhaust brake (Even though some folks like the aftermarket PacBrake better), and the new 6 speed auto Aisin transmission, which is supposedly "Bullet-proof".

Good luck in your search. I'm about to embark on the quest for a new truck myself. Sure wish GM would put the Duramax/Allison in the Suburban, and I'd ll over it. Aftermarket companies do the swap, to the tune of 80 grand..... No thanks.

Bob

Go with the diesel, I've got the same truck you described and love it. The Cummins engine will last you a good long time.

Come to the Rockies, we got some real "hills" for you to try here. We'll send your 430lbs tq home cryin' 😀

There's been a number of people that were Hemi fans until they found out why Cummins fans mocked them. Then they became Cummins fans. Unloaded, the diesel gets about 50% better gas milage than the hemi (18MPG vs. 12), loaded, that increases to actually MORE than 100%. (14MPG vs. 6). And having driven both gas and diesels, I can say that the diesels really do handle loads alot better.

And those prices definately aren't bad, depending on how they're equipped.
