I just got ripped off by the flower shop

I called around to the local places here and the cheapest I could find for a dozen roses was $60. I've heard of higher prices around V-Day but for her birthday I bought a dozen roses for $40. The flowers are purdy though, I got 4-white, 4-red, and 4-pink roses all arranged and delivered to her (since she's in a private school).

For a kid in college who has trouble paying his $13 eletric bill, that's expensive. Plus I can't plan anything romantic cause she's locked up in that school all the time. :( Anyone else wanna share their V-day troubles?

rape1 (rp)
n.

1. The crime of forcing another person to submit to sex acts, especially sexual intercourse.
2. The act of seizing and carrying off by force; abduction.
3. Abusive or improper treatment; violation: a rape of justice.

Using definition #3 here :) The flower shop treated me improper and abused me because it's Valentine's Day and I'm a guy.

Update: My g/f told me last night that she didn't wanna exchange gifts for V-Day this year. At first I thought "Oh Sh!t! Now I totally wasted the money." But maybe she'll be more suprised now. I dunno, she did sound kinda disappointed since it's our first V-day together. Almost makes me feel like I didn't waste the $60 now :)

lol scrapster. I dont understand the whole flower thing. My girlfriend asked me not to get her flowers, cuz they are too expensive. She said she would rather have something that i thought of on my own. I will probably make a card for her, since she really likes that. And, i'm taking her to dinner at her favorite restaurant. mmmmmm... lobster... mmmmm...

yzzim,
it is vday, so flowers are alot more expensive. my gf and i aren't doing anything too special tomorrow nite, i have to work:( but we're gonna go out thur nite to melting pot for some desert since she's never had desert there...what a treat:) i did get flowers sent to her, since she's in a dorm and never gets mail or packages and i figured it would be a nice treat - although mine were 39.99 delivered - ordered about 2 weeks ago and i got much better prices:)

Flowers are expensive period, but on Valentine's day they're insane...

Late last month it cost me $92 to send 20 lavender roses. The same thing today would cost me $112.

And that's a damned good price.

My girl has the whole college bind thing as well but we are still going to go out tomorrow night. Not out to dinner though, we are going to a play that one of her friends is starring in. I might take her out for drinks afterwards or something though. Also, I was planning on just buying flowers on my way up to see her... is it bad to buy the flowers on v-day? Would it be better for me to go and pick them up now?

Our anniversary is March 25th so I'll be doing the same thing in a little more than a month. Her birthday was December 11th so that's 3 dozen roses in 4 months.

I think I've gotta come up with something different. I take her out to supper usually once a month (to some place halfway fancy) and she doesn't wear jewelry.

Hmm....

I couple years ago, myself along with some others were facing the opening night of a new restaurant, in a total time pince I did the dozen roses thing, was like 80 dollars, my ex put them in her back seat and they were all dead the next day when she came out, ouch, talk about a waste.

Buy the roses at a grocery store. You can find a dozen roses for $20-25 and they're still nice roses.

No troubles at all for me. :)

I used Proflowers.com, got a nice Tulip assortment for $35.05 delivered, with a free crystal vase. :)

divinemartyr - All of the 2 grocery stores around here are out.

Wish I could have done a quick pricematch with the grocery store and applied the coupon for $10 off if you're a new customer. ;)

Viper, if this thing with you and Sarah doesn't work out, would you consider an old(er) woman? ;) That's the sweetest thing I've heard recently (assuming of course those flowers weren't for your mother and excepting the domain name purchase posted earlier).

20 red roses delivered cost me 60 bucks but that's also overnight shipping included and that's counting the 10% coupon I found online, came with a vase tho :). The week before the price was 5 bucks lower. I didn't realize that they would change prices that quickly.

Then 23 bucks to overnight a monkey to her. The monkey was 30 more. Damn, that ended up being an expensive monkey. It was a chimp, not a monkey. But hey, he was cute, I wanted to get her a monkey, he was close enough :) She's worth it all and more, too bad she's in Texas. :(

late.

ChrichtonsGirl...

You mean 20 doesn't count as older? ;)

Yes, they were for Sarah. Her favorite kind of flower, delivered on her 20th birthday.

And if this thing with Sarah doesn't work out, there won't be much of me left to pick up.

My wife received flowers from me twice last year (before we got married) wasnt to bad for the cost either. Despite being 10's of thousands of miles away. But this year she does not want me to send flowers, she rather have me save the money instead... I sent her a card and a music cd i made for her instead. And I will give her a little extra cash to get something nice for herself ( that is if I can get her to).

My only woe is the distance thing right now.

Austinites: the place is on 35th and Jefferson, < 3 miles from campus (take 38th and when it forks take the left; it's very close after that, on the right)
