So, I just got pulled over on the freeway, in a 65mph zone. This is how things went:
Officer knocks on passenger window
I roll down the window
officer says "I pulled you over cause you were going a little fast, about 84-86"
I say "I didn't realize I Was going that fast, I know I was over the speed limit, but didn't think I was gonig quite so fast.
officer says "can I see your driver's license?"
I hand him my license.
officer asks "Where you headed tonight?"
I say "I jsut dropped off a friend in Sacramento and I'm headed back to Davis"
Officer asks "Have you had anything to drink tonight?"
I say "Nope."
Officer says "can you do me a favor and follow my finger with your eyes"
he moves his finger, I watch it.
Officer hands me my license and says "Slow down a littlw, and be careful pulling back out into traffic"
That was the whole thing, took 2-3 minutes, tops. That's what I want to praise the CHP for. I've been pulled over by the CHP before: sometimes they've given me a ticket, sometimes (like tonight) they haven't. Either way, they always get straight to the point. They either give your your ticket, or your warning, and send you on your way. I have NEVER been asked to step our of the car by the CHP. I have NEVER had the CHP ask to search my vehicle, which seems pretty common in other states. I was pulled over in Nevada for speeding, and got asked a bunch of bullshit questions for 20 minutes that had nothing to do with my speeding infraction. A friend of mine was recently pulled over in Texas and was stopped for over half an hour while the police did a detailed search of his car. I've never gotten any of this BS from the CHP, and even though I still get kinda pissed when I get a ticket, I'd much rather get it in this kind of a straightforward manner than with a bunch of BS and unwarranted suspicion.
