But my question is, what is the little plastic thing that was on top? I see exactly where it goes and i have it sort of sitting in place but i have no idea what it is or if i need it. Perhaps if i had the comp here with it i would be able to figure it out but i'm dying to know what is it? It obviously extends the inner-part a little bit but again i have no idea why or if its needed. Thanks for any help! X60s should be coming in a couple weeks.

EDIT: I was relieved to find that it was made in china which means it is most likely not affected by fire? I think the made in china ones are Sanyo not Sony...

(A) The plastic piece is a small modification part for the X60 series 8-cell battery. Due to the thinner design of the X60s, this piece is required to make the 8-cells fit on X60 & X60s models.

(B) I don't know but most chinese electronics are considered inferior ;) J/K, you'll be fine. Thinkpad batteries have an active power management chip built-in so if conditions exceed tolerances the power shuts down completely. As to the Thinkpad in LAX that caught on fire, it looked to be a T40 series and we don't know if the battery was aftermarket, if the chip malfunctioned, etc. After all, out of a couple million batteries you're guaranteed to have a fire ;)

So its needed for X60s but i don't understand how it would need more length on the battery if it was thinner?

Lenovo just told me that's why it is there, I don't remember the specifics. I had an X60s here several months ago, it's been a while.

What's the ETA on the rest of your machine?

Excellent question. I really don't know. I would guess no later than the first week of october as far as being at my door. I will certainly make a post when it arrives :)
