I just want anyone who comes onto this forum looking for a good powerful, portable Windows laptop to look no further than Fujitsu. This lifebook S6210 is amazing! The 13 in screen is radiant, the centrino processor coupled with the extra ram I got (added 1 gig to the 256mb that came with it) runs so smoothly. In addition, this laptop is UNDER 4 pounds! Another key feature is that the DVD/CDRW drive can be removed so you can add another battery! Only dell and possibly IBM offers that option (but dells suck, I had one and got rid of it quickly). I cant say that there is anything about this laptop that I dont like!

I'm envious. That machine's only shortcoming, for someone like me that wants a decent amount of everything good in a single machine, is the lack of a dedicated graphics card.

I'm a programmer, and a machine like that is pretty attractive to me because the Pentium M compiles code quickly. Get a machine like yours with two gigs of RAM, and I can dedicate one gig to a RAM drive and compile even fairly large projects quickly. And the whole thing can be tucked easily in the crook of my arm...

Actually, one other thing that MIGHT prevent me from buying that laptop is the lack of support for higher resolutions than XGA. I know that that resolution is just about perfect at the 13.3" size for most things, but if you need to pack a lot of (especially monospaced) text on the screen (like I do for writing code) you might find yourself stuck. (If you DO find yourself stuck like that, you can largely remedy the problem by using a specialty font like "Sheldon".)

I'm wondering, how is the keyboard on your laptop? Does it have the looseness problem, or is that all fixed now? How do you like the keyboard layout?

Where did you get it, direct from Fujitsu or from a reseller like Portable One? What do you plan to use it for?

I also was interested in that series of Fujitsu, but had the following questions, and reservations:

1.) How solid is the unit you got, as far as case, keybaord, etc? The one I saw at FRY's was a little flimsy.
2.) Which warranty did you go for, just the one year basic? I am concerned since I can not get any accidental damage coverage from Fujitsu, and the 3 year screen-only coverage costs a lot.
3.) Is this your first Fujitsu product, any past experience??
4.) Some people on another Fujitsu forum are having issues with white spots on their LCD's and some are sending them back to Fujitsu. This is supposed to be a similar white spot issue to one on Apple Powerbooks, where Apple ending up extending the existing warranties by 2 years for everyone that got them.

Your reply would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

So far I love the keyboard, it seems to be of perfect size and I have no qualms with the sturdiness of the keyboard. I got this laptop from newegg.com I suggest you jump on it while you can, they had an instant rebate of 180 bucks. My major use is just Microsoft Office, Internet Browsing, Trillian. Its extremely portable, I hardly notice it in my backpack.

I think that this little Lifebook is very sturdy and doesnt seem very flimsy at all. I did not buy an extended warranty because I have faith that this thing will be able to run a long while. The last fujitsu I had experience was one of their tablets and it worked really well, I didnt have any issues with it. So far I have no whitespot issuesand actually I'd have to say this LCD looks better than the 15" UXGA LCD that I had on a Dell Latitude that I got 2 years ago. So far I LOVE this little thing! Feel free to ask more questions!

Also, link me to those fujitsu forums would ya?

The Fujitsu forums are at:
http://www.leog.net
Click on the "P Series Forums" link at the top, it is actually the link to ALL of the forums, Fujitsu and others. The discussions are under "Other Fujitsu Notebooks" there.

Also there is a lot of Fujitsu discussion regularly at http://www.notebookreview.com under their forums.

I assume that the model you got had the CD burner. I am interested in getting one with DVD burner from Portable One at:
http://www.laptopsinc.com

Overall, what was your experience with the Fujitsu tablet PC?? Was it a convertible or a slate model?? Why did you "move away" from it?
I ask because I am also interested in the T4000 convertible tablet PC at:
http://webshop.fujitsupc.com/f...series=T4&ptype=TB

Do you know anything about this one? It is supposed to have 180 degree viewing angles from BOTH directions (portrait and landscape) and also a 600:1 contrast ratio.
However in "convertible mode" I am not sure how good a laptop this tablet PC makes??
Any ideas or thoughts are FAR MORE than welcome!!

Thanks,
Andrew

Yeah I got the model with the CD burner, the DVD+-RW model was quite a bit more on newegg and I dont use the dvd burner on my desktop so I figure why waste the cash on it. As far as the issues some people are having I havent seen any sort of white spots as a result of pressure (i assume this will happen on any laptop screen if you smash the lid in too far) or any screen flickering. Maybe its too early, but I have faith in this little guy :)

As far as the Tablet it was a slate model and I didnt really move away from it, it was my office computer (dont work there anymore). It ran a program that kept records and accessed a main server that backed everything up so it wasnt really used for much else besides running that program. HOWEVER, I did run some MSOffice and had no issues with that or webbrowsing. I cant recall the model number, sorry.

I dont have any experience with the convertibles however I feel like it would fall to the saying "jack of all trades but master of none." I really just dont have faith in those swivel tops, they just arent as solid as a normal laptop or slate PC. My friend has a gateway (i think, not 100% sure) that was a convertible and the swivel thing broke after a year of heavy use. I use this laptop daily and tote it around in either a messenger bag or a normal backpack (with a padded neoprene sleeve) and I just dont think I'd feel comfortable with that convertible.

WHat is your intended use for the machine?

Just general purpose surfing, word processing, etc.
Nothing heavy duty at this time.

In that case I'd probably stick with the S6000 Lappys. I couldnt be happier! Its the first laptop I've seen that is as cool/cooler than an apple.

i almost got an S6000 before i saw the P5000. thats what i have now, i have had it for almost a year with no problems whatsoever. i take it everywhere on campus, and its really lightweight and portable (although it looks lighter than it really is). it's showing wear and tear faster than i expected though. the paint on the palm rest is coming off and the paint on the mouse buttons are wearing also, but u have to know i'm a cs major and i'm using this thing most of the time i'm awake. physically it's in great shape, nothing has broken or snapped off. LCD and battery are both working as if one day old.

u know what's weird? i can't access the leog forums from school. it seems like their dns doesn't update or something, because i can type in the IP fine (once someone gets it for me). does anyone else have issues w/ accessing leog.net ?

I don't see P5000 as a current model.
Which model replaced it?
