I just got my 1.2ghz Palomino/MP today. For anyone that keeps track of core dating or stepping, the markings are as follows...

AHX1200AMS3C
AGFCA0118FPCW
Y6135550074

I kind of bummed though because I won't be able to build until this weekend. :( It should be fun though, so I guess I can wait. I will post my o/c'ing results when I get it up and running...:)

Just about to come and look for you and see if you got it...GOOD!!! Looking forward to the results...

sidenote: do have a way to test some stuff like flaskmpeg...since I have my tbird at 1.2 I would like to see some comparisons I may be able to achieve if I got a mp...mainly a boost over tbird cores..

Also interested on the whole voltage issue...Why isn't it lower voltage??? Will that make the heat about the same as my chip?

very similar to:

AHX12000AMS3C
AGFCA0121BPBW
Y6387750017

Which on the athlonoc.com got to 1573mhz.

What cooling will you be using?

I will be using a MC462-A. I do not have flaskmpeg, but I could get it and run some tests if you like. Thanks for the info pay, theirs is a four weeks newer, so I may not be as lucky. I am hoping for 1.4ghz...anything over that is bonus speed. :)

What power supply are you going be using? You wouldn't need anything extreme would you?

I would appreciate it...get flask amd version 0.594, divx 3.11 alpha codec at go.to/doom9...I know it is an application where cpu speed matters and I am very interested in what the hardware prefetch may or may not do when it comes to video compression. Do you have a dvd-rom you can rip a trailer or something from to try this???

If you need help setting the settings pm me....much appreciated as I know no one else is likely to do this test except maybe for tomshardware, but they usually don't list the settings and I have a feeling they are not using divx codec or at the higher bitrates I usually run...

I only use Enermax in all my new systems. I will be using the 430W model. My feeling is that it never hurts to have extra power to spare. I haven't heard of anyone to date having problems with too powerful a PSU.. ;)

Duvie:

No problem. This is going to be a secondary system for me and it will only have a Kenwood 72X in it, but I have all my computers networked, so I can use the two 16X Pioneer's I have in my system upstairs. I have both the older 105S and the newer 106S models. I may need a hand with those settings when I get since I haven't used flaskmpeg before. I have a few DVD's here I could rip...

Also, if you wondering pay, I will also be using an Epox 8K7A for the motheroard..

Adul:

I am a very active member of TA Seti@Home, and I will be running Seti 24/7 on it. I get work unit times of 4.25-4.5 hours per wu now with my 1.2ghz@1.4ghz with a 165FSB..I am hoping to break the 4hr/wu barrier..:)

What you post your OC results, can you do me a favor? I've looked high and low at Athlon MP reviews, but nobody has posted temperatures. I'd love to see what the temperature both @ 1.2 GHz and whatever speed you achieve are, obviously with a mention of whatever cooling you're using. One of the main reasons I've been waiting for the Palamino is that I want the cooler CPU, and I'd be interested in comparing temperatures between a Thunderbird 1.2 GHz and Palamino 1.2 GHz and upwards. I guess that might be a lot to do, but if you just take a look in the BIOS or if you have a temperature monitoring app installed, that would be great. Thanks!

Hender:

I will post temps, that's no problem. I don't think they will run much cooler since their default vcore is still 1.75v. However, they do have a larger core, so they have more surface area to dissapate the heat, so that might help. Also, I will be using a Compunurse thermal probe that I use in between the core and the HSF for a more accurate temp reading.

I received my Palomino (AthlonMP) 1.2GHz chip today as well. I'm expecting another in a couple days, but here are the markings from this one I just got:

AHX1200AMS3C
AGFCA0118FPCW
Y613SSS00S9

I'm building a desktop with it tonight, and I've got a pair of 1.2's going in to a new Tyan S2462 duallie board this weekend. I can't wait :D

You and me both :D I'm just waiting on another chip. Got the board and ridiculously expensive power supply today.

I'm running a Palomino at 1400 (140x10) right now. I haven't tried many settings. I'm just going to see how it runs for a bit :D

Pabster...I heard the PSU's that have the special connector for the Tyan boards are really hard to find and expensive. I am guessing that's the one that was a ton of cash? I am curious why only Tyan needs those special PSU's...if I am not mistaken, the cheaper MSI dualie boards do not need it..correct?

If you haven't noticed, there are 3 members that expend this kind of money on new stuff, Insane3D, John, and our newest addition, Pabster.

Insane, how do you have SETI running inorder to achieve 4.25Hr/wu time periods? I have a 1.33GHz at default clock with a 145MHz FSB but my SETI is taking 6hrs to complete a WU. I have seti set to run as a screen saver, and then the screen saver blanks out after 0min.

the SETI screeen saver is very consumptious. Try running the command line one, it is leaps and bounds faster=)

Insane3D:

It is a VERY pricey PS. Has the special auxiliary connector (which is in a very poor place on the Tyan board). Total cost nearly $185 with shipping. It's rated at 460W, and much louder than any Enermax I've come across.

To the others: of course I sprang for the Tyan duallie. $600? Hardly. About $520, shipped. And I suspect the price will continue to drop.

I love having the newest gadgets. I also paid $440 for a VT GeForce 3 the day it was released. :D

Since you've got the money to throw around, how about making a donation to the "Buy a Poor College Student Named Andrew Who Loves Playing Games a Geforce2 Ultra or Geforce3" charity? Cash, PayPal, and board donations accepted, just PM for info. :)
