please you guys, i really need some help. what kind of things should i say/do tomorrow? i really really would love to have this job. i thought they werent going to call me after the first interview, but i think the girl who does their secretary stuff likes me or something. she called me this morning to my dismay and said "hi this is so and so from comp usa, did anyone call you for your second interview?" i said no. she told me that she wanted to schedule another interview, and if i could come in asap. i was like hell yeah, (well i didnt make it sound like i was that desperate) but yeah i told the lady yes, and that i could come in anytime. she said tomorrow at 11 i was like alright! but i could really use some pointers on what to say/do. i mean, i get all stuck up in there. i either hold my hands together looking really stiff, or i move them around, and i know thats not what im supposed to do. also my sentences i use, they sound f'ed up i know it. i mean, this is for a cashier position. i dont know what type of interview this will be. it may be a interview that they just judge me on how i answer my questions again. but then again, it might be a straight up talk and if she likes me it goes type of deal. anything would be nice. ill be here for a little while more until i go to another house for a few days. please help!

first of all relax, what is the worst thing that can happen? nothing!

second of all sit up straight and put your hands on the armchairs (if it doesnt have any put your hands in your lap casually) do not grab anything!!! not your legs not your other hands nothing.

do not look directly at them but a bit passed them or at the middle of their forehead.

breath! breathing nice and in good rhytm will keep your heart rate down and you will not sweat as much and will not stutter.

if you begin to stutter or say "fu[/b]cked" up things, just pause for a few seconds and regain composure. (during this pause do not insert a ummmmmmm)

be curtous, and honest, if you see that the intervier is really nice, maybe you can "share" with her, that you are really nervous/excited and really want this job.

keep the blatant bsing to a minimal.

for a cashier position I guess they'll be judging you on morals and how you look, so don't dress up like a gangster looking like you're gonna rob the place on the first day ;)

I've never had an interview, though, so I don't have any real advice. Good luck :)

dont buy pants from old navy, but something from bealls or dillards (nothing to expensive) some nice plain good looking slacks will do that trick.

always go to an interview or any sort of job interest thing in a shirt and tie at the least. be professional, and remember, they don't know that much about you and just want to find out if you can talk some, since most of your work is customer relations.
enjoy it, ask the interviewer some questions if you're comfortable enough.
they realize that you're going to be nervous so they will discount some nervous twitches, but like dam said, don't grab anything.
look at them, don't stare at the floor.
be honest in your answers

and most important - BE YOURSELF!!!!

CompUSA Interview Cheat Sheet v1.21b

Q: What is the difference between a Pentium II and Pentium III?
A: The Pentium II lets you surf the web 2x faster, the Pentium III lets you surf the web 3x faster.

Q: What is the difference between a 700Mhz machine and a 1Ghz machine?
A: The 1Ghz is slower because it is only one unit. 700Mhz is faster because it has 700 units.

Q: What kind of RAM does my system need?
A: Probably the kind that is in there now. Bring it in and for $50 we will tell you. Uh, you may have a virus too if your system does not have enough RAM.

Q: Do you have "X" game in stock?
A: Uh, that game, um no, don't you want "Deer Slayer III" instead?

Q: Is a USB modem better than a serial modem.
A: Uh, the USB is a cable modem I think and the serial means it uses the phone line. Plus you need a PIII to use DSL so I think you need a serial DSL modem. Yeah, that.

judgejudy: its called a job, and its also called necessity. a job is a job no matter what it is or where it is, as long as its legal and you are doing it to the best of your ability.

don't worry about it, you really have to be incompetent not to be hired in retail so near christmas. :) Interviews are just there to test you a little.

Ahhhhh yes, CompUSA. That's where I got my start.

While you're cashiering away, make sure you pick-up a book and start learning about computers. Being a cashier isn't the ONLY position at CompUSA.

I started at cashier, went to Software, then did hardware sales. While at Sales I also taught some Computer Classes. Lastly, I was a Tech in the Tech Room before going on to a new company.

It's a good start, if you utilize the opportunity.

Good luck, and congrats on getting the position.

Damn Namuna,
You must be a clone of me. Those are the same steps I took while at CrapUSA.

Congrats Cable,
Just remember to sucker, I mean sell those replacement plans to customers. You might not think the SPIFF on them is a lot but when you sell 5-10 a day it adds up.

When I sold hardware there, I made more money in warranty commisions than I did from my hourly wage.

Also if you can sell warranties then you'll get out of the cashiers job alot quicker.
Oh yah, make sure they know you're in school. That way you can't be elected to work inventory. Big SUCK.

What location are you going to work at. We could always use a hook up, also an advanced notice of upcoming deals at CompUSA would be appretiated.

Yeah, they have me as full time, but Im supposed to start college in January. Hmm what to do?

My 2 brothers live in Hawaii...mind if I give them your name and location and you can show them the warehouse and *accidentally* turn off the security cameras?

hehe, j/k :)

I guess it's ok to work for compusa if it's in hawaii.
I mean, were else are you going to get a job in computers... the tech job market is horrible over there (or so I've heard).
