My ass is SORE!!! 1000+ miles on a motorcycle over 2 1/2 days hurts. But it was worth it. Went through New Hampshire, Vermort, eastern New York, western Mass, a little bit of Maine.

Several things:

1. go through Boston at night. Coming home today going rte. 93 south by the Bunker Hill bridge is a PIA
2. Don't wear black riding jackets when it's 98 degrees out
3. speeding though NH and VT not a problem, as I saw only 2 police officers the whole time, and one of them passed me as I was doing 80-85 :)
4. Don't wear a black helmet when it's this hot out
5. time for a more comfy seat

Pulls very hard once it gets above 6000 rpms in 6th gear.

The ride from Manchester to Portsmouth NH took only about 25 minutes :)

Nice. Those things are big, smooth and fast. I had a 1996 Triumph Daytona 900 that was very similar to your 1000F.

I did 15,000 miles solo in 15 days. Including a two night stay in New Orleans and Calgary. Later I did SF to Buffalo in 44 hours with no sleep.

The only other bikes I was really looking at when I bought this bike was a Katana 750 and a Daytona 1200

I got to ride a Daytona 12 once. Damn fast bike. Thing would do 100 all day without breaking a sweat.

Nah. You can kill yourself on a Nighthawk 250 just as quick as you can on a liter bike. It's called "operator error". :p

A long damn time if you take care of it. It's a Honda, remember.

Probably. It takes a while to learn your limits and learn to control your right wrist. Generally something around 500cc is a good starter bike.

Well, I just passed 32k on my 1000 and somebody sold another 1000 on ebay with over 80k, so they can last forever with the PROPER CARE!!!

As to your second question, and from personal exprience, Yes you would

As The_Good_Guy would say, 'The MSF course is your friend. And start with a 250 or 500cc bike.'

Me, I took the course and went straight to the 1000cc range (big mistake)

I always wanted a bike, Not too go speeding down the free way or anything, but just to ride and cruise around in.

Pushing it to it's limits would be a once in awhile thing.

I should take some classes and get my license first.

Another thing...

for those that have sport bikes and are looking for a set of saddle bags, I can attest that BikeMaster saddle bags stay on while doing at least 115 ;)

is it true that some manufacturers won't sell you a bike unless you have a certain amount of experience ?

i.e Yamaha R-1

Heh...in GA, you don't even have to have a motorcycle LICENSE for them to sell you a bike. Then again, the salesperson himself/herself might have a conscience attack right before allowing a 16 year old male to sign on the dotted line for an R1 without at least hinting at the danger.
