i just got an XTi !

Costco had a sale on the XTi. It comes with:
Xti camera body
18-55 canon lens
75-300 canon lens
uv filter
1gb CF card
carrying bag
training DVD
$940

They also had a Nikon D40X deal. It includes:
D40X camera body
18-55 nikon lens
55-200 nikon lens
carrying bag
2 training DVDs
$900

I opted for the XTi deal -- that is a better deal, right?

I also wanted to know if you guys could point me to any beginner sites or tips on accessories, taking great photos, etc.

They're both just about the same. I'm a Nikon guy, so anything I say advocating one over the other should be suspect. 😉

Enjoy your new DSLR! It's a fun (albeit expensive) hobby.

I've enjoyed my XTi very much since I got it in June. Check out the reference thread for good websites. I just got a EX430 and amazed at the difference it makes!

Nikon guy here too. Used to be a Canon user. There isn't really a "wrong decision" there for you to choose.

You should of gotten the D40x... Haha Just kidding.
I think you made a good choice. If you like the Xti then its a good purchase.
The DSLR hobby is very expensive 🙁 !

Oh and the 75 - 300 lens is a lens that is needed when you realize that focal length you needed is now in need
