for 200

I bought it to resell for a little profit but after thinking about it I may keep it. I am currently using an amd x2 5200 and my pc has been acting crazy, randomly shutting down and I have to do start up repair a few times a week. I am almost tempted to keep it and just build a new system. If I did decide to keep it, what is the cheapest mobo and ram I can get and will my antec earthwatts 360(I think) work with the board ect?
Also on neweggs product page it says built in graphics..how does this work? Do mobos compatible with this have a video output that works with it?

Yes, to use the onboard video on the CPU you will need a motherboard which has the headers (VGA, DVI and/or HDMI) necessary for output.

The cheapest models are any of the

H61

or

H67

for Socket 1155.

You probably want to avoid the P67 and Z68 chipsets since most of them lack any onboard video outputs.

Your Antec EarthWatts 360 should be more than enough for just the CPU and the onboard graphics.

Actually, the Z68 motherboards will work - they have video outputs. But it doesn't sound like you want to overclock or add a lot of expansion cards. So this H61 board will probably do the trick: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157237

No, it won't. You're using DDR2. You need DDR3, but luckily, it's very cheap. Here's 4GB for $40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231396.

BTW, based on the description of your crashes, I'd guess you have a hard drive problem. You should probably replace that as well. Here's a 500GB model for $45: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136769.

Brand new computer for $350. Huge improvement from what you're on now. But don't forget a Windows 7 license if you don't have an extra.

the desktop quadcore (i5s and i7s) SandyBridge CPUs are only 95W TDP (the dual core i3s are only 65W), and since they include the IGP on the CPU the total system power draw won't be much higher than 100W under load if you aren't going to fill it up with expansion cards and drives, your 360W PSU could actually be described as overkill ;)

A minor point on. The z68 boards, must do seem to have the proper outputs for video out allowing use of the IGP, except for the gigabyte line. Only a handfull of their. Lower tier boards do for some strange reason.

They must have stolen the receipt from newegg as well

I wonder why someone would buy something on Newegg for $320, never use it, and sell it on CL for $200?

Wonder if the chip still works or whether they OCed it to hell and then put it back in the box to "seal it" up.

Otherwise they're just foolish or somehow changed their mind about their purchase, but to lose $120 for nothing seems odd

In this economy, I would have no trouble believing that someone

a)bought this for a future build,
b)heard about the sata bug while their parts were on order,
c)returned their motherboard,
d)decided to hold onto the cpu, then
e)lost their job and
f)had to jettison the rest of the kit onto craiglist.

2600 sounds overkill to replace an X2 machine. If this machine is used for little more than surfing the net you could still sell it and get an i3-2100 for $125 or even the G620 for $76 (buy.com).

That's all fine and good but overkill = waste of money. Which, depending on the person, might be something to consider.
